Windows ME Bug?
Discussion
Im having a problem with Windows ME.
Occasionally when I start up I get a message saying Windows is updating your configuration files (but I havent changed anything), this can take hours to complete and one day actually took over 24 hours of tghe computer just sitting there. If i restart during this process it just starts again.
Also when im using the computer sometimes it really starts to lag and the mouse starts to move really slowly and has to be restarted.
The reasons I think it could be a bug In ME is that my friend and my little cousins computer does the exact same sometimes and they are both running ME??
Anyone else encountered this and know how to fix it???
Cheers

I shouldn't admit it but I have..
It slipped away while I was distracted,
I swear I havent changed, how did this happen?......

It might be an update fault, if you have auto update switched on it can sometimes try to download the same update time after time.
Go to the Windows update site yourself and run a scan to see if there are any critical updates you need, manually download them. If you get the problem again contact their support team about the problem. I know someone who had this once, it was a directx update and would never complete, then tyr to download it again. It was a registry problem IIRC. But Microsoft support should sort out the problem, you've paid your money to buy their software so make use of the support too

Don't mean to be a barer of bad news but ME is the very worst of all of Microsoft's OS's. Released to jump on the millennium bandwagon it was basically 98SE with badly implemented aspects of the NT range tacked on (such as profiles and system recovery). Not surprising it was the last OS of the 9x generation (XP is an evolution of the NT platform). Fully updated it works OK but I would still steer well clear - we refuse to support it it is that bad (it is actually in our contract and everything)!
My advice; backup all your vitals and upgrade / downgrade the OS from scratch. Bit of an extreme way of clearing this particular fault but it will save you a lot of grief in the future.
