Doing a lot of mileage for my Job recently, now on the balance of price what garage/ supermarket offers the best rewards?

Usually fill up at sainsburysor Bp to gtg nectar points but you have to spend £500 to get £2.50 which isn't that good IMO

Any ideas

Use a cashback credit card (reward 1) and then get the points from using your loyalty card (reward 2).

Assuming a 1% cashback, and 1 point (or 1p) per pound spent, you get £1 back (one way another) every time you put in £50. (Unless the back of my fag packet isn't working properly today).

Tesco are decent; better than Nectar IMO. I think they reduced the points on fuel recently to 1 point for every £2 spend, but it is still not bad. Each point is worth 1p in cash vouchers, so not a great return if you spend them that way, but they are worth much more when spent elsewhere. For example, I use them to collect Airmiles. £2.50 in Clubcard vouchers is worth 50 miles. I also use an Airmiles credit card to pay for the fuel, so am effectively collecting 2 sets of points from one transaction.

I also use my V-Power card at Shell to get vouchers, but I am about to change this so I get Airmiles through that scheme too.

Most people I know who are getting big miles paid for by someone else use Tesco Clubcard.

Although depending on where you're shopping, Morrisons will throw you a £5 voucher (for the supermarket only, not fuel) for every £400 or so you spend. Not calculated exactly how their points work, but it's not too bad a reward.

My old man used to fill up the lining rigs etc from Tesco's pumps, five or six hundred quid transaction going onto the Clubcard each time hehe

Be aware some businesses take the hump if you're collecting loyalty points on fuel paid for by the company.

I don't see the problem myself, but they seem to class it as getting personal reward from company money.

Tescos clubcard for me. Tescos is closer than any other supermarket so we do our shopping there and their petrol is cheaper than any other petrol station near by so when you factor in the club card points its a no brainer, for me atleast.

40p a mile or similar is clearly the best thing to be on.. I once worked out my mum's mileage since she reckoned 42.5p a mile wasn't very much - turns out it was enough to be paying not only for her fuel, but also her tax, insurance, and even the monthly payments on the car itself! Mental.

I have a shell card, not great but it's the cheapest garage near me so any axtra counts, I've used the Tesco 5p off promo before but i'll never use it again as a swear the pumps are set to the minimum allowed as it still ended up costing me about £5 more than usual.

Is my maths right here - so to get 50 airmiles, you need to spend £5000 in Tesco?!?!?!

i love the way supermarkets convert to points just to hide how little they are giving you for all that personal shopping information and habits - i.e. 1p for every £2 spent. (.5%)

No you are way off.

50 air miles = £2.50 in clubcard vouchers = 250 clubcard points = £250 spent in Tesco (if doing shopping it's £1 = 1 point, but if only doing petrol it would be £500 as it is £2 = 1 point).

You can also bump up your clubcard points though with 'special offer' vouchers they send (i.e. '25 extra points when you buy...') and by using your own bags so it isn't necessarily a £250 spend. I also get clubcard points through my electricity and gas supplier so that bumps it up too. I have only been collecting airmiles for 3 months and I have well over 1000 miles already, most of which came from Tesco. Nearly enough points for the girlfriend and I to get return flights to anywhere in Europe.

Yes it is cheaper to just buy flights on their own, but when the money spent is on stuff I'd normally spend it on anyway I think it is great to get something for nothing.
