Found this thought it might help-
Why do you maintain a complex network of 700 military encampments in 130 countries? Why do spend more on your military than all the other nation of the world combined? Is this your way ensuring that no nation friendly or hostile – can ever challenge you militarily? Or is it your way of distracting the world’s attention from the myriad incursions, invasions, coups and occupations that you have pulled off over the past hundred years? To say nothing of the renditions, secret prisons and systemic torturing of recent times. Aren’t you afraid of the blow back – that will come back to haunt you? That one day someone will strip you down and force you to kneel naked on a filthy concrete floor? That they will compress your chest, cover your face and pour water down your frightened throat? That someday, amid the snarling dogs and peals of foreign laughter, there will be no one there to hear you?

Gosh.

That really sums up the complexity of the whole thing, thanks.

Perhaps its down to the US objecting to the wording. The Palestinians don't seem overly worried about it, after all.

With American influence in the middle east now seemingly on an unstoppable decline and their Israel driven foreign police now even harder to defend to the out side world, how long before some one starts shooting ? How long before some one throws a second hand Pakistani nuke in for laughs?

Where does this come from? The whole military is only about million people and the planets 7 billion. So what? 5 guys being bored sitting around a consulate matters? I don't think you have the slightest idea what a occupation really looks like.

Because the worlds poor. The US GDP is 4 times larger then the next closest nation and roughly equal to all of the EU 27 combined.

Yes.

I think it's the cool fun thing these days to over-emphasis the US. The reality is that the past 65 years has been the most peaceful in recorded human history and that's because of the US. It isn't like we couldn't have had a traditional Empire. Nothing to stop us if we had wanted to do a land grab. Besides... 100 years? A couple of minor wars doesn't equal WW1 or WW2 neither of which we started..

It is a bit embarrassing.

No not really. That's the nice thing about power. Still have been better to not do it though. Long-term it's not a good idea.

haha.. sure... If this is the same guy I think he is then he really needs to stick to his old fashioned radical economic theory and be ignored. Either that or stop being a child. The US will continue to be the 1st or 2nd most powerful country in the world for rest of the century and the only major power on earth that actually sometimes cares about basic human rights or democracy in general. Better hope we keep paying attention because if some japanese theorist tries this with the Chinese he's going to find out what a real autocracy looks like.

The sad thing is they never even had an empire like we did when we used to be like that!

Poor old USA, just got going and then eaten up by China.

ironic how they invaded Iraq under false pretenses when they could have just let the nature of the beast take it's toll like Tunisia, Egypt etc.

Supreme western powers maching into the middle east never worked, just ask the Romans.

LOL! Biggest load of fking bullst I've read in a while! Where is the U.S concern for the human rights of those in Bahrain at the moment eh? Oh yeah muted because you need the Bahraini royal family more than their subjects.
You only care about human rights when there is something to gain yourself and you choose to ignore them when in your own national interest. Who was the only nation to veto the latest U.N resolution on the Israeli settlements when all other members voted in favour of it? Oh you didn't like the wording, well accept the fact that the rest of the word disagrees with you and if you cared so much about democratic decisions then the veto wouldn't have been used.

What the hell... let's throw some gasoline on the fire.

(Yes I said Gasoline and while we're at it... Color, favor, savor, hood, trunk, convertible top, gas tank, elevator, truck, windshield, etc wink

Why? Because we can and because if most any other country could they would as well.

What happened to the last two countries that declared war on us? (Germany and Japan) It didn't go so well for them, did it?

Iraq I think was America’s high water mark can’t ever see them doing anything like that again. Sooner or later they will declare it a victory and go home. Then it will be the long slow decline will probably start with a defence cut hidden in a lot of spin about rationalization of military spending and a few carriers going off the books followed by some over seas bases being closed down or not reoccupied. Then as they start to fall behind the curve of an expanding Chinese military spending spree and try to fend off internal upset and falling living standards will they be forced to join the ex empire club?

I doubt that highly. I'd say that in all probability Obama isn't going to be re-elected and a Republican will quite likely be the next President. Should that (hopefully) happen, you'll probably NOT see a reduction in the US armed forces.

When GB ruled the world with the pax Britannica all was air and light. Odd war in Afghanistan and the Middle East bit of a ding dong with the tsar all was going well. Then the rest of the world seemed not to like the dominance of trade and military fire power. So two quick wars with the Germans and GB ended up as a big US aircraft carrier. When the USA goes down as all empires go down will the Mexicans come over (well those who aren’t already there) and get there lands back?

For your information, the NY Fed owns nearly TWICE as much US debt than the Chinese do (or will shortly)

I am afraid, Twain-like, the reports of the demise of the United States have been greatly exaggerated. I mean, the last time was the late 60's/early 70's when the US was in the decline. Then it was the 80's when Reagan was being called a Cowboy by all who now call him great.

Keep guessing. You may be right one day. I don't think, however, that it will be in your lifetime.

This is like crazy people ranting.

The US does actively promote human rights unless it is in their interests not to. They are a lot better in regards to human rights than any other major power such as India, Russia or China. To argue otherwise is idiotic. There is room for improvement for sure but not as much as the other world powers.

If I was to get lifted for terrorism, the US is at the top of my list of major world powers to be lifted by. Life in a Chinese prison or more likely a round in the back of my head isnt something I want to experience.

Why dont you stop telling half the story and tell us why the US used their veto?

At least, when we were the old superpower, we graciously stood back to let America take our place, as we are very similar and very cordial in our relations.

However, the US will probably do all it can to perpetuate its lead over China to try to keep China in second place in terms of influence and politics. A power struggle will likely emerge in the next 40-50 years.

But seriously, this guy sounds like a buffoon. Acting surprised America spends a great deal on fire-power? Well of course! Trying to block others from challenging it? Of course it would! With power comes responsibility, and in the name of that responsibility the power holder can do what they like.

Sheesh, America-hater much?
