I'm generally disappointed with national and international TV news coverage here in the UK.

Both the BBC and ITN seem to employ the same presentation format of two presenters reading alternate lines from an autocue which seems particularly infantile. Sky News is a much better presentation, but like ITN and BBC the actual news content is very limited. On all three networks, there's generally far too much overhyping of very trivial domestic issues and celebrety pap, at the expense of any serious or interesting foreign news.

When abroad, I enjoy watching BBC World News, which seems much more informative and keeps a better perspective. Unfortunately this service isn't available to UK viewers.
I've recently started watching Euronews on Sky channel 508 which I can recommend to those interested in what our neighbours are up to.

I'd be interested in hearing any other recommendations

I tend to watch sky for the breaking news banners and use skytext to avoid the fact that they are like a dog with a bone on a story.

For example, I have seen nothing on sky news general transmission for the last 2 weeks apart from Arabs and North Africans kicking the crap out of each other. How about a little more of a mix of stories in your broadcasts Rupert?

Channel 4 for national/international; BBC for local/Scottish news.

Used to watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on More4 but the buggers have cancelled it... and Keith Olbermann has left MSNBC recently so no more Countdown podcasts. Basically for someone who's an news junkie a lot of my sources have suddenly disappeared frown

Agreed, I'd rather watch BBC World News too.

Unfortunately, I get BBC News 24 streamed at work... and no other choice. Consequently most of the News output I see has me seething.

I watch SKY News every morning before I go to work, after that I use the internet for my news.

I find the evening ones repetitive of each other and the local one tagged onto it a pot of dispair with a token of brightness at the end rolleyes

I generally turn the news on at about 11:30pm and watch News 24 (which it isn't called any more) as they do a pretty decent newspaper review at that time - generally they have a fairly senior newspaper bod doing the review, and as such end up with a fairly intelligent discussion.

Mostly I watch FOX online though. biggrin

C4 news at 7 mostly for me - can't beat Jon snow and the young Faisal Islam.

BBC news very watered down and can't follow when they read alternate words on the auto cue.

BBC 1 news but find myself getting increasingly annoyed with the increasing editorialising rather than reporting. R4 Today program if I'm driving to work.

This is BBC News in a nutshell

Then "punctuating every other sentence with a hand gesture" line is so true . . . irritates the hell out of me!
