Help needed - dizzy problems
Discussion
Hi,
Me and a mate are having problems starting his V8 chevy engine. We aren't getting a spark at all, but there is voltage to the HEI dizzy.
The engine is cranking well, but no attempt to start at all. Tested a spark against the chassis - nothing.
Car was running absoultely spot on 2 weeks ago.
There is a scoop fitted which goes through the bonnet. Although the car is covered, there was standing water on the engine when we came to try and start it today. From this, we think it is a water based problem.
Any thoughts on what we can do? We took the dust cover off the dizzy and all seems dry in there. We haven't taken the cap off to check the points yet, as its a pain to do with the scoop in place.

I would try a liberal spray of WD40 over all the leads, including inside the end caps. if that doesn't help,I would check the points condition/adjustment but also, the condensor could have failed. This can happen without any warning.
You should also check the rotor arm and the carbon pick-up in the distributor cap as well.
You could also swap the lead from the coil to the dizzy first, just in case it's failed, but it's unusual not to have some mis-firing first.

Thanks Catman,
We ended up ripping the scoop off the car, and taking the dizzy cap off. All looks good in there, and no obvious moisture. We bent up the rotor arm (I think) a little bit and it seemed to solve the problem.
We aren't 100% sure that was it, but it's all working now - happy days
Thanks again!
