Hi All,Having just sold my BMW E46 M3(2004)which i had insured with Swiftcover for a very reasonable £359:00 I contacted them regarding the prospective purchase of a 2005 ST220 Mondeo which i assumed would be no problem only to be told that they do not insure the ST220 as they are too big a risk! How may i ask can an ST220 Mondeo be more of a risk than an M3? I will add that i have a clean licence, maximum ncd etc .

it's no all about you - it's about how many get stolen - and the "average" risk of all people that drive these cars.

Shop around.

Every insurer has certain cars they will not touch due to their history with certain models. It may be that Swiftcover had good rates for ST200's in the past and a lot of customers had claims.

Greenlight won't touch any of the vRS Skodas for the same reason.

So I guess you'll have to cancel and start earning the next NCD all over again? I know you should check these things before changing car, but I can understand why it's so annoying. Same way they always seem to increase your premium with a vehicle change, even if it isn't a higher group

Admiral group don't seem to have a problem insuring anyone on anything.

When I first got my Z4, the lady at the end of the phone for BMW Insurance had kittens when I tried to get insured for the 7 days free insurance thing - she went so far as to tell my wife (who I decided to insure for the free 7 days to speed up tax disc, etc and just in case) that no one would insure me on this car without 2 years no claims.

Called up Elephant and got insured straightaway without any drama - on a 6 months old license, no mention of required no claims and other rubbish was made.

Before I got the Z4, I had looked up insurance for M3s (as well as several other cars, including modified ones), and Admiral group were the only ones who had half decent quotes and actually wanted my custom. I even had one quote for £19,000 (£23,000 if paid monthly) from some company who was clearly only quoting to be seen quoting and didn't actually want the business.

Good stuff.

I cant praise the admiral group enough. I rang bell on my last reknewal and told them i got a fairer price with elephant. He matched it for me straight away based on the fact they were the same company. Most of the time you get a local call centre too which makes things a lot better. At least with Bell you do, being based in Wales.
