I'm after something a little faster than the Mondeo at around 2k. Anyone care to impart any wisdon on the above?

Is it possible to fit an LSD as I imagine the front wheels can be a little unruly.

Any comments on the ride quality? I know it won't be 'comfortable' as it's a T5 but anything must be better than the current car.

Cheers

I should have mentioned, it's the Mk1 C70 I'm referring to.

I should imagine they would be a great cruiser, plenty of power on tap, comfy, top down motoring when the suns out. My dad has a mk2 2.4l auto, it's lovely, wouldn't mind having it off him if it wasnt for the fuel economy.

Really like the looks of these, in that volcano orange colour they did.

Agreed.

I've not owned a C70, but I currently have an S70R and a V70 T5 and they're both very comfortable.

LSD's are available for manual cars from Gripper or Quaiffe.

Make sure you drive plenty of them as when I was looking for mine (S70 T5), I thought there were massive performance differences between each car I drove for some reason.

Hmmm, I was under the impression that the suspension settings were very hard on the C70 T5 which led to a very crashy ride.

I'll look into that LSD. Cheers.

Someone at work has an '05 C70 T5 convertible. I'd describe it as "fast but squishy," i.e. an awesome car for motorway/A-road work but a bit on the soft side for messing around on back roads.

Hey Tonberry,

I ran a C70 for couple of years. Here are my opinions.

Good times

Ride - The ride is pretty much set up to cover huge journeys in comfort. I'll say it does roll abit in the corners but then
the C70 is more of a GT car. I wouldn't describe it anything other than comfortable.

Seats - One of the best seats I have been in, they are pretty big and supportive for long journeys. T5 spec will include electric seats as well.

Radio - Highly regarded radio and speakers by Dynaudio. I would recommend the logic one if possible.

Engine noise - inline 5 does make a nice hum.

Bad times

Torque steer...

Turning circle - similar to the V70, the C70 turns like a cruise ship. It has a huge turning circle.

Noise from the window seals - many owners have commented on the wind noises coming from the window seals at the front due to the way the windows drop with the door.

Many owners have remapped the T5, if you are considering this route, I wouldn't discard the 2.5 T version. Once mapped, obviously will be down on the power of mapped T5 but will
have much more usable torque curve. (unless you want the full turbo laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag)

I'll describe the C70 T5 as a swift car that doesn't really want to go fast?

Cannot comment on the LSD since I was using the car up and down the motorway.

Cracking car for 2k.

Dad has owned one for 3 years and I have had the S70T5 and now have the S60T5...

The ride is quite firm around town and doesn't seem to absorb bumps at low speed as well as the S60 and the S70 even. On the motorway however it is very good IMHO...

The handling is not as bad as people make out. Providing your not going in and applying 240bhp through the front wheels mid corner it will turn and the grip is not too bad at all; I think most of the criticism is about the lack of feel, therefore confidence, in the ability to go round corners. I know I took the S70 for a few countryside tears and could with a bit of practice stick with most hatches round corners... One word of warning, the turning circle is similar to the orbit of Venus... 4 point turns!!!

The seats, only bettered by the S60 smile The interior in general is built solid and although the styling is looking a little dated inside it is still ergonomically brilliant. Sound system ain't bad either smile

As for the T5 engine... Brilliant... Loves a drink but it's got a unique 5 cylinder growl and you should rarely need to worry about what is behind you in the fast lane pecking order...

Make sure the one you get has a good service history and look out for a wobbly idle, both cold and warm... If its not as steady as a rock, walk away...

It's one of those cars you love for it's flaws as much as what is good about it...

Dont buy a convertible or one with a dodgy idle.

Otherwise look for good history and not millions of owners.

As mentioned LSD's are available, personally save your money and fit stickier front tyres. I had one years ago running 350bhp with semi slicks on the front and didnt have much in the way of torque steer, also never had any with standard power so if the car you drive has it probably something amiss with the suspension.

I would agree with most of the above comments.

Had a couple of T5's in the past and have a c70 T5 auto cabrio at present.

Swift and comfortable and more of a GT cruiser.

I prefer them in auto, just point and squirt and most things will disappear in the rear view mirror. The autos do suffer from a little lag from stand still but once on the move the power is relentless.

Very heavy on fuel, autos will average 23 and manuals about 25. Front tyres needed every 10k and the turning circle is a joke........having siad that, I'm on my 3rd T5 !!

Swift, comfortable, reliable luxury.
