Tyres and brakes, strip it.

Don't forget to modify your insurance wink

(Assuming stripping it requires you to tell the insurance?)

Fold the rear seats down, this reduces weight apparently.

take out the spare wheel, all the interior trim, and pump the tyres up to 80psi.

Just wait a year - one more year no claims bonus ought to mean easier insurance on something appreciably quicker.

In the meantime maybe do something like a carlimits.com day to learn to get more fun out of your current car, or try a track day.

Money spent tweaking a 1.4 is money wasted.

Call a tow truck.
Fastest you'll ever go. Though cornering ability may suffer.

To some extent, it's not what you drive, but how you drive it. A driver with the right skills will be quicker across the ground in any car.

Training also has advantages over modification as you can take it with you to every subsequent car, and it might actually reduce the cost of insurance instead of increasing it.

You're the 2nd person to ask this question today. Same has been asked in the Engine and Drivetrain forum, and I think the answers were broadly similar: it's really not worth the money.

You might be able to get your 0-60 time down from 12s to 11s, and the top speed from 101mph to 104mph, but at the end of it all you'll wish you'd just bought a faster car in the first place. And now you can't, because you've spent £3K giving an old Lupo an extra 8bhp.

if you do fancy modifying it how about about something like this:

or diesel power? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1OMp2c0s7U&fea...

or probably what i'd do, wait until you are older an buy a better overall package when you can insure it

Fit the 16v head from an Arosa 1.4 16v (100hp)

Or alternatively, buy a Seat Arosa 1.4 16v (100hp) and swap your the badges over. No-one will ever know. wink

Complete bks when you say you cannot tweak a small car and have fun and have to wait for another car.

Check out the pictures on this thread page

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

And that is only 1 litre.

If you can turn a small dull modern car into something approaching the old Mini is that a bad thing? Nobody says the original Mini is not fun.

I heard a strut brace can transform the handling on a Clio 172, so it may work on your VW?

Use Oak for best results.
