Somebody find that bit of video of an in-flight arrestor wire trap by an F-14 - wheels were about 4 feet off the deck over the wires, but the hook trapped anyway. Re-defines the term 'Ouch'.

Unless you have designed the airframe and gear to take that sort of punishment, trying to retrofit it into a land-based design is going to be very, very difficult. If you depend on thrust vectoring to reduce approach speeds and hence the general service loads on the gear, all well and good, but sooner rather than later someone is going to replicate the above, and then you'll just have to sweep the bits over the side.

We won't be buying the VTOL F-35. I don't think anybody will be buying the VTOL F-35. I'm sure a naval Typhoon will go well with the carrier we'll be selling them.

This was rumored a few years ago. Will need an even more beefier undercarriage now. They've only just got the normal landing undercarriage strong enough, christ knows how long that'll take for a carrier version, lol.

Thought the Indians had decided to buy MIG29K’s to go on the new carriers, that would give them more capability than they need so why even consider the Typhoon that isn’t naval capable?

I admit the idea of Typhoons being flung off a carrier is exciting but why on earth would you blow all that money when you can buy FA18s off the peg that are purpose built for that role?

The Rafale is pretty similar to a Typhoon and it's already navalised.

We are not going to get 150 F-35s. The numbers quoted were around 40.

Looks the same yes, but the Typhoon is way above the Rafale as far as capability goes.
