I need to get on to my web server to upload some new content, trouble is I haven't logged on since my complete software reload so don't have anything to do it with.

How about internet explorer?

Just put ftp:// then the address, login is under the file menu, then just copy and paste between locations!

Heres a free one for you. Read the web page carefully as it may not have all the features you need.

www.ipswitch.com/Products/WS_FTP/go-with-the-pro.html

The LE version is what I use to upload.

Good old DOS is always the best thing to learn, as it's always there.

Run a command prompt.
Go to the directory where your file are located.
Type ftp then the name of you server i.e ftp ftp.plus.net
Login

You're now in the file server. LS or DIR will tell you the contents of your current directory, CD will let you change directory, BINARY will change to binary mode and PUT/GET will allows you to upload and download files.

e.g.
BINARY
CD photos
PUT *.jpg

This will change to a directory called photos and upload all jpg files in your current directory to the photos directory in binary mode.
Type EXIT to finish.
