Watch an electric car crash
Discussion
Who ever thought one would get go fast enough to crash
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-FRSdthUxQ
This should be almost porn for a self confessed true petrolhead.
Those of us that like technology and cars will also find it interesting

Batteries belong in milkfloats, not Volvos
the more I see of Kryten's video's on EV's, the less respect I have for his basic levels of engineering understanding.
Just see what happens when a Lithium Ion battery catches fire, you think petrol is bad news?
that's not to say I am against using them, but you need to be a little bit more realistic as to the risks than a very ordinary front end impact.
Higher risk I would suggest is charging issues causing cell over-charge and then fire, or being involved in an accident that then triggers a fire.

As a true petrolhead how does this make you feel then?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJCZ4ayioCUI'm suddenly quite nervous having one a few inches from my crotch.
Several times more cells in a car must be quite a sight to see go up like that.

no problem.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj3dWe-meqU&fea...
now see if you can get to work and back in it......
(I have nothing against the principal of electric cars, just the way it's currently not being thought out or at all realistic, and yet my taxes are subsidising it), just the same as the joke that's wind and solar power in this country.

Actually I think he does - it has a 90-110 mile range and is street legal. (I think his normal daily driver is another electric Datsun 1200 which is less extreme - 'Blue Meanie')now see if you can get to work and back in it......

from Wiki"The electric C30 will have a lithium-ion battery, supplied by US manufacturer EnerDel,[14] and no gears. Top speed is estimated by Volvo at 130 km/h (81 mph), with acceleration from 0–60 mph in under 11 seconds. The all-electric range will be up to 150 kilometres (93 mi)."
so, in the real world, say 50 miles and slowly!
fill it up with kids for the school run etc and see how far it get's

I was talking about the Datsun dragster, not the C30! "The electric C30 will have a lithium-ion battery, supplied by US manufacturer EnerDel,[14] and no gears.
