I've found a car to buy for my first car. I've spoke to the bloke who is selling and everything seems sweet and I should be going to view it later in the week smile

However I've just entered the number plate into an app on my iPhone that gives me some information on the car and, although the car is a 1.3, this app says it's a 1.4
Should I worry?
Any advise would be much appreciated

Thanks,
Tom

possibly...

do you have more details. make model etc?

were they all the same on the app? Also i'd recommend getting a proper check done, one with comeback. HPI check, the works

Get a proper HPI check, plus MOT history, plus anything else you can think of.
You'll need reg number, MOT or V5 cert number, and chassis number at least.
DVLA vehicle enquiry is useful for cc's of engine.

alternatively, just link us the advert, and we'll probably be able to do quite a bit of the checking for you :P

dvla says that its a 1388cc so I guess that makes it a 1.4

The enquiry is complete
The vehicle details for K14 TAF are:

Date of Liability 01 03 2011
Date of First Registration 01 08 1992
Year of Manufacture 1992
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1388CC
CO2 Emissions Not Available

IIRC the earlier ones were 1.3SR and the later ones 1.4SR, this would be a later one for sure - so it's likely the guy writing the advert just made a mistake. £1050 for a 18 year old Nova though? It's not on the MID so he's taking a risk if he's parking it on the road.

Thank you for doing that smile
1388cc was what I was getting for the engine capacity too. I'm guessing it's a 1.4 SR then as oppose the the 1.3 (although surely the owner would know)
Is it best to walk away then?

firstly, I wouldn't worry about the engine size tbh. but I WOULD worry about the mods on it.

Have you declared them on your insurance quote? If not try again with them declared.
Daft looking bonnet vents like this will get a lot of notice from the police. Should ANYTHING happen to you, even someone else hitting you, then this will be picked up straight away. your insurance will be voided, and al of a sudden you will be in a lot of trouble.

If you have got a reasonable quote with this nova modded, then why the hell are you just getting a nova, you could get soo much better for the same money. far faster, more fun, better looking etc etc...

also judging by your age, (guessing 17) you won't be able to get legit insurance on that I wouldn't have thought

Ask to see the MOT Certificate, or get it scanned and sent to you.

Go here and enter the data from the certificate (preferably at the sellers premises, with them watching).

This site shows the last few years MOT's. It shows passes and fails, what it failed on, advisories issued, and also the mileage at the time the test was taken. It's a free service, you just need your reg plate and MOT test number from your current MOT certificate.

HTH. Happy hunting!

That's a 1.4 Sri - will be multipoint injection. The 1.4SR was on a Weber 32/34 carb, and ended when the mk2 came in. They are good cars, a little dated now, but I would have another one.

Thanks for all the help everyone smile I need it to be a 1.3 ideally because I can insure it through young drivers classic insurance so might give the insurers a ring to see if they would stretch to the 1.4 (I somewhat doubt they will though)

Thanks Bowler, very useful service. That's saved in my favourites for future use biggrin
