a few months back my computer decided it wouldnt load windows up one morning so it had to go back throwing away all my data, and its doing it again!! switched it on this morning and it didnt load windows, so i retarted it again and got to the bit where xp starts and bar go across and it just kept doing it for 10 mins , so restarted again and windows started checking drive c then it finally loaded up. any ideas what could be wrong with it? and how do i back up the data? i have a dvd and cd rw i think.... but no idea how to use them

If every piece of data you want to keep is under my documents just drag all of that to a blank CDR and burn it via Windows.

If its not then its a case of doing this file by file.

If you start XP in safe mode (F8 during boot) does it start normally?

If it does then its just a config issue with something...

i didnt try safe mode, as it started ok when windows did these checks to drive c. the thing that worrys me is these are the symptons it had when it broke the first time then it wouldnt start even in safe mode, im just going to back everything up anyway and hope this morning was a one off.....
