how much blood do we need?

According to Robert Kubica's agent he had only one litre of blood in his body when he arrived in hospital.
Can this really be true? What's the minimum amount of claret we can get by on?

You might not even notice two. I think you can lose at least 50% before death looks likely.

Dunno how many pints but I had a hb level of 4.5 when I was admitted to hospital a few years ago; a friend said I was almost transparent.

Yeah, he's talking crap. Eight to nine pints; something around five litres, as said. One litre won't do it for a full-grown man. Not unless he is ignoring some large-scale medical intervention.

That will be it. It is probably the journalist who got it wrong. I remember once a colleague in the office, on reading that someone had required 40 pints of blood during an operation, asked where it all went.
