My brother has a Rover 600 that has no tax or MOT. Both have just expired. Looking to get it to somewhere to weigh it in. Can it be legally towed to the scrapper, using a rigid tow pole or something?

Think it needs to be trailered to be legal. Recent thread in SP+L recently where someone got done.

Is it a runner?

If so, book an MOT at a place right next to the scrap yard, drive it to the MOT centre, but then at the last moment decide to scrap it instead.

If any part of a vehicle touches a public road, it needs to be taxed, insured and if applicable, MOT'd.

A couple of scrap type blokes have come to look at it but wanted it for almost nothing I think.

It would MOT no probs. Just needs a CV joint, a window regulator and the AC sorting.

Thanks for the suggestions.

hehe If you insist on scrapping it, this is the way to do it.

Don't forget to cancel the MoT appointment to be fair to the Tester.

I got my Rover MoT-ed a few days ago and remarked that he appeared unusually quiet. Apparently four pre-booked appointments failed to show and not one of them phoned up to cancel.

My 620ti passed by the way ~ if that's all that's wrong with this 600, fix it, MoT it and then sell on.

Then a runner with 12 months MoT worth a few hundred minimum.

Try http://www.cartakeback.com

I just used it for a valuation and they offered more if they collected than if I delivered.

Also, I've used them before, painless experience.

Cartakeback looks like a possibility, cheers!

My Brother can't be arsed fixing it and just wants rid of it, although may be coming round to getting it MOT'd if all else fails.smile
