Wedding photos

Mrs Puggit (2b) and I are looking around for a wedding photographer. We've found one locally who's cheaper, and it appears it's because he uses digital photography.
Can anyone see a problem with this? He does print at a local professional printing outfit. We are going to visit and inspect the quality before we book!

There's a good article in Digital Photography User this month on wedding photography. There was one paragraph about digital that could be useful to you...
"Professional wedding photographers have embraced digital technology because it frees them up to take the kind of shots couples want. With versatile high-spec digital cameras they can roam about, checking shots instantly to make sure those all important photos of the bride and groom are definately in the bag.
Without the high cost of film stock to worry abou, the digital photographer is free to experiment, taking as many shots as they like and moking the most of the varied shooting modes many digital cameras feature. Kevin (Kevin Wilson, experienced wedding photographer who uses digital) explains: 'Years ago the couple were given approximately 50 photographs to make a selection from, but now they have perhaps 2-300. Is the quality as good as 120 film shot on a Hasselblad? Probably not, but for the clients, the choice and flexibility outweigh that.'"
Hope this is of some help, when's the big day?

Puggit> If youre reasonably local to West Wiltshire, i'd probably be able to come along and do some black&white reportage shots as a backup? Im no pro, but im certainly improving all the time! Here are the shots from my best mates wedding, but bear in mind that my flashgun packed up before i even got there, and it was my first foray into the field:

I'd be happy to donate my time to a fellow PHer provided you paid the cost of film/developing etc etc.

Hi there - I do plenty of wedding photography, have a look at the website here
www.pr-weddings.org
We use only digital, and to tell the truth, below 12" x 18" print sizes the quality is better than film. I go and see a lot of people who are skeptical about this, but they are all amazed when I show them examples.
Someone else mentioned printing the photos on site in the evening - we can also do that if it interests you. Another person says that more than one photographer is best, which I could not agree with more. You get a much larger variety of pictures, because of the different styles of the photographers, and also because they can be in different places at different times, like with both bride and groom for when they are getting ready in the morning.
I might be able to sort out a PH discount too...

Picked up our wedding album from Ewart Rennals at Colesium in Ashford the other day. All photos were fantastic, and taken in digital. We have had one blown up to 36 by 24 and it looks fantastic too. Not cheap though.
I was sceptical that the cost was worth it, but now I have seen the result it certainly was.
So digital does work, and don't scrimpe on cost. Go to the photographer who has produced photos in the style you want.
