Just looking at prices for the car in pieces in my garage. A 10 year old SRi Vectra worth about £600.

Third party only, garaged at night, 4 years no claims, licence for 7, 2000 miles per year in a good postcode area... Using confused.com (which i know is a load of st but its a good benchmark, you can usually get it about £150 cheaper than what confused says) gives me the cheapest of £961!

LOL.

Seriously, its no wonder people drive without insurance.

Yet its only about £700 fully comp on the Mondeo (st220).

Does anyone know if you can put another car on your policy? I've been with Bell for 5 years or so now and usually get a good price, can i put the Vectra on the same policy as the Mondeo?

25 in July, no precons, no bans, full clean licence (with pass plus if that matters). One recorded fault accident from 2005.

Personally I think insurance is quite good value. I know that I wouldn't underwrite any damage that the average 17 year old lad could do for three grand a year or whatever it costs. eek

Agreed.
That's why fully comp cover is normally no dearer than TPFT for those of us with cars worth less than about £10k.

Its been well reported that you don't need to be under 25 to pay silly rises in insurance. I know 4 or 5 people who have all seen rises of more than £200 not one of them is under 25. Greed I suspect.laugh

Think sometimes when the car is an old shed insurance companies factor in that you may not be too bothered where you leave it or how you drive it, as it is unlikely to be your P&J! Also the older safety features and security features..I have had some silly quotes when trying to insure varios sheds 3rd party or fully comp....much higher than for cars worth a lot more

vomit

If it helps; 18 y/o male, 1 year ncb, 1.6 car @ £1050.

Insurance just makes me laugh, seems they genuinely do pluck a figure out of the air wobble

You are joking, shirley?

Every week, in my local paper (Birmingham), there's a column that summarises the cases that have been through the local magistrates. You'd be amazed how low the fines are for DWI

Average fine £400 + 6 points....

As it happens the majority (but not all) of those that are churned through the courts on these offences are, err, how can I say it, err, from a certain ethnic community

I don't in any way condone this, but when the fines are so low, it's at least understandable, if you think that way..

ETA: I'd crush their cars instead and multiply the fine by a factor of 10

Agree in principle but they just wouldn't pay, or would pay at £2 a month. Instead, they should have their car crushed or sold on the first offence plus a 5 year ban, and the same with 2 years jail on the second.

A relative of someone I know (from the rough side of their family) has been driving for 30 odd years, never had a licence or insurance. He's been caught once and fined £250 and banned from driving for a year (thats good when he doesn't even have a licence anyway!).
H
e's owned XJS Jags, mercs, bentleys etc... Saved himself a fortune over 30+ years!

I'd never do it as I've been brought up to always be honest and pay my way etc... but I can see why people may be inclined not to bother!

Well my insurance has gone down consistantly every year...was over 900 last year and now this year it was under 700 and in fact I renewed it today and my renewal was the cheapest compared to anywhere else unless I wanted a 1.5k excess in which case swift cover beat my renewal by £50.

I don't mind insurance as long as it's less than 2k...which may make some people balk but that's just what my generation have to put up with smile

Though I know someone at my judo club who spent 3k on 6 months insurance on a 1.6 escort!!!!!

Yes you were, you called him a pratt! And his comments weren't racist in the slightest.
