Just landed back from Orlando on a BA operated 777, speed reading on moving map at one point was 734mph with a 187mph tailwind. Knocked the journey down to just over 6 hrs, result!! Is this sort of speed normal?
Ground speed = 734, Air speed = approx 547. Stated cruising speed is 560mph spo about normal - That tailwind was a good one though, just over 6 hours is pretty neat!!Had a pretty good tailwind from Atlanta to Manchester overnight on Tuesday. Left ATL one time, but arrived at MAN 45 early. Tailwinds of around 100mph all the way so groundspeed was pushing 650mph!
Edit: Should have said this was on N185DN: http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/N185DN.html

Those 767s look awesome with winglets!Edited by rolty on Friday 11th February 13:20
As the 747 nears retirement your only option for 4 engines will be the A380 - and from recent experience it looks like the engines on either wing of an A380 have formed unions - one out, the other one stops talking to the management.
Edited: Alright, you can have the A340 as well...
