Been following this for the last hour or so. I actually saw it taking off - Belfast City Airport is about half a mile from me and it was very foggy here this morning and led to flights being diverted.

I flew into Cork airport a few years ago. Well, eventually. The pilot had to go around twice due to bad weather and that was in a 737. Does this airport have a lot of problems with really bad weather?

I attended an airshow there in 1985 which was cancelled just as we arrived due to fog/low cloud.
As far as I know, this is the first fatal crash of an airliner of any sort in Ireland since the late 1960s.

I can't recall any either, however there was an Air India which broke up over Cork in 1980's killing 329 odd people. Kegworth crash was a flight on it's way to Belfast too.

The last fatal airliner accident I can recall was the Aer Lingus Viscount which was on a flight from Cork to London in 1968.

You must live very near me, I am very close over looking over Belfast city, Victoria Court if you know it.
Shockingly my line manager was supposed to be on this flight to catch a connection to Germany, she missed it because of a bomb scare between Lurgan and Belfast. Close call or what.

Thanks to god that it didn't crash into a cemetery! The police would have been recovering bodies for weeks! 
You clearly have not read all this thread, if you had, you would have seen that another member on here lost a friend in the crash. A tad insensitive do you not think Edited by thatone1967 on Saturday 12th February 18:39
