you know you are badly wrong ...
Discussion
It was a politician's speech in that you could put your own meaning to what he said. There were very few specifics, he did not commit the government to actually do something, but it did have its full share of soundbites. So the working class racist could say how great he is, the middle class liberal could suggest that, in picking on extremists he was, in fact, quite correct don't you know, and politicians of all parties could rest easily knowing that they did not actually have to do anything difficult.
What could be better? Everyone happy.
Mind you, timing could have been a whole lot better.
I used to write 'apology' letters where members of the public had made a complaint about performance that did not, if I played it right, amount to an 'official' one.
I generally started the letter or phone call by saying: I am really sorry that our performance did not reach the standard that you expected, and for this I can only apologise.
Me and David - built of the same stuff when it comes to saying something that means absolutely zilch but looks good.

As a former Complaints Officer for a Housing Association I know exactly where you're coming from I generally started the letter or phone call by saying: I am really sorry that our performance did not reach the standard that you expected, and for this I can only apologise.

And there are so many pleasant ways of saying: "Dear Sir f
k off Yours faithfully"

If the NF thought that murder was wrong, would you disagree then?
oops, the perils of making a post on your phone then forgetting about it until lunchtime. What I meant ... but didn't say, obviously, otherwise these responses may have been different ... was that I would expect that CMD wouldn't be looking at this and thinking "whoah, yeah, I'm getting support from all across Europe". I suspect he would NOT welcome this kind of affirmation or support, considering perhaps that the NF had (like the EDL at the weekend) chosen to hear what they wanted rather than what he actually said.
Personally, whether the NF agreed with my view of murder or not, I would rather them not try to align with me?
Apologies for any confusion caused.
There are many in France who believe that the Front National could make it to the second round at the next election and even gain power. The Front National in France are, whether we like it or not, a legitimate political party who are gaining popularity amongst the normal working Frenchman as the country becomes increasingly fed up with the usual political groups.

..but if in my random example, and the NF did try and align with you on the subject of murder, would you then think you'd got it badly wrong!? If not why would you think DC had got it badly wrong. What I meant ... but didn't say, obviously, otherwise these responses may have been different ... was that I would expect that CMD wouldn't be looking at this and thinking "whoah, yeah, I'm getting support from all across Europe". My op was badly worded. Which is what I think CMD has done, the intent and underlying message of his statement is good on balance, but taking the soundbites out can be used to support more extreme views.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
