Hi, sorry for this being in the wrong forum but I was unable to post in the "Speed annd the Law" one. I posted it on another forum so if you don't mind I'll just copy and paste it here:

"Hi guys, I passed my test only a week ago and am just wondering if you can give me some information if I was wrong here. I was turning right at the position shown in the attachment lights2. What lights have to be green for me to go? (Or what ones have to be red for me not to go). Secondly, I'm worried if the camera around the corner is designed to catach me. Lights attachment shows thuis one. And Lights1 shows the view it has from the camera. Is this designed to catch people turning right at the wrong time? And when is the wrong time? Thanks for any help!"

Thanks for any help you can give me, I'm just a bit confused & nervous! The attachments I referenced are in my original post over here: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1...
Yes, and you have to be a member of that forum to see the photos, so how are we supposed to know what you're talking about?

Sorry mate, forgot about that I uploaded them to photobucket:

I read something about them having to take a photo with the light you are seeing in it as well (to verify it was red) however I'm sure. Although that does fir with the general principle that photos are taken from behind.

From what I can tell from the picture entitled Lights2, the light that is shown as being green is the one that you would take instruction from, there is no other light to look at and it doesn't have a right turn phase. Basically you wait for the green light and then wait for the oncoming traffic to be clear before going (whilst waiting in the right turn box)

If the oncoming traffic doesn't clear before the lights go red, you are going to be fine to move after the light has turned red (when presumably the oncoming traffic will have stopped) as you are already past the stop line.

The red light camera is there to catch people waiting at the lights shown in picture Lights1.

You haven't been done, don't worry biggrin

Thanks, from what I've heard its unlikely they'll have done me. I didn't see a flash either (I know that not every camera has to flash to get you!) so it seems alright. I think you're right about ti being there to catch people emerging onto the main road and not vice versa. - Or at least I hope!

Any other opnions?

I was a driving instructor mate, honestly, you can relax. If you were turning right from "Lights2" you have not been done by the camera. smile

EDIT - oh and yes, I know how you're feeling now because I was in the same boat just after passing my test when I was turning right across a junction and the lights went read before completing the turn, I was sweating for two weeks. I know better now though wink

Thanks for the reassurance mate. Was just a bit gutted, it's the only traffic camera in the whoel city! Not something you really want to stress about. Cheers again for the information, good to hear from someone who knows their stuff rather than blooming Yahoo Answers!

So red light cameras only work from behind you?

I've never found one yet that doesn't work only from behind, but please don't take that for granted! wink

I used to work independently, but gave it up as, to be honest, I make more money in my office job which comes complete with sick pay and holidays, none of which you get working for yourself! frown
