i am interested to find out how your 456's are running as i bought one myself and as a new fe***** owner, would appreciate your experiences?

relaible? good dealers? running repairs etc...I saw on one it said one of your cars had an early timing chain change? do they have chains?

Look forward to hearing, good to see you back on line..

Hi Bennno,
I've had my '99 456M GT for about 18 months and covered 7,000 miles (total is 17K miles). So far (I'm touching wood here) the only outlay has been £1k for a standard service at Maranello Sales. The only thing to go wrong was that the battery died on the alarm siren, and Maranello Sales sent out a technician to my home to replace it, free of charge, even though it is not a warranty item. I now keep the car on a trickle charger plugged into the cigar lighter, since they told me >50% of their callouts are because of flat batteries.

The other things I've done are have the front bumper and wheelarches armourfended against stone chips, and fitted a Koenig sports exhaust.

I estimated mpg to be 10-14. All the cars I like have appalling fuel 'economy', the only exception being a Caterham SLR I had last year. Same deal as all the foods you like making you fat.

Hope you enjoy your car as much as I enjoy mine. It's a fantastic car and one of the best kept secrets in the automotive world.

thanks for the reassurance. Mine is a 96 with 14k on the clock. No real probs so far and loving every minute.

Only shock was seeing the prep bill that was prepared within the dealer, lets see £1640+VAT stone chip repairs, £1700+VAT parts, £1700+VAT warranty, £2040+VAT labour...gulp a total of £8400

I have been reassured that all it will need next time round is a very basic sub £800 service!

Could you advise on the exhaust, where did you get yours from, how loud, any good etc??

Bennno - check this month's evo which has a second hand buying guide for 465's (DOH!).

They reckon:
cambelt change: 800+VAT
radiator: 1400+VAT
new brake pads every 3000-8000 miles (575)
new disks @ 10,000 miles if not used regularly (700)
carbon fibre bonnet: 7000
electronically controlled rear dampers prone to leaking (450 each)

They do heartily recommend them though

you can add £10,000 to the price of that bonnet, i think the figure they got was not quite right.

i am told a new engine would be £60k

is the evo mag out yet, i was advised the 456 article was in it as the dealer mine came from helped with the article. Its not a dk blue with black lthr 456 in the pics by chance is it ???

The magazine is out (to subscribers at least).

Yup, it's dark blue with black leather - from MTH.

am looking at buying a 456gta (the wife insists on an automatic for ferrari number 2), '96 w/ about 14k miles. everything looks great, but thinking of lowering it as per the other one in the showroom. apparently you cna just notch down the suspension without hurting your clearance too much. anybody heard of this before?
