Top Gear video effect

Quick question for those of a technical cinematography bent.

During last night's footage of them driving round Albania, several times the picture was made to look like it had been recorded on a 60s cine camera.

Is there a modern name for the filter/effect they used to create that and can I use any proprietary software to apply it to movies shot on my HD camcorder or does it have to be a hardware filter?

I'm guessing mainly arseing around with Final Cut Pro at taxpayer expense.

I would imagine that was done in post production. Easily done in programs like Adobe Premiere and After Effects. Its just a combination of grain saturation and some colour adjustment.

Can even get an iPhone video app that does that effect now Suppose the added poor image quality might just add to the authenticity?!

It's called 8mm vintage camera, searching 8mm brings it up in the App store or Installous, costs £1.19. Seems pretty decent for what it is though I haven't yet had the chance to have a proper play with it yet, all I know is you can choose several types of film/lens. Can't say whether it will give you what you are looking for...
