A mate has told me it's better than the first.

OP - you should pick up a cheap copy of the 1st one too.

Can't vouch for the second as I've only tried the Demo but the first is definitely worth a punt...!

It really is a great game, there have been some subtle improvements to the game mechanics making the whole thing seem more polished. Some of the background environments have to be seen to be believed; looking out on Saturn's rings from a 'zero G elevator' is a particular highlight so far!

And of course, it is scary; deceptively so. The big scares rarely happen when you think they will and there are some new types of aliens / mutant / things to kill which really test how resourceful you can be. Overall it is really engaging and just makes you want to play; it is everything I liked about the original and more. If I had to find more improvements I suppose I'd like a longer storyline, or failing that, a few subplots to take you off the beat and track a little bit. The game already makes you afraid of deviating from the set course, it would be nice to utilise that to good effect; I think it would probably help to pull you into the Dead Space reality a little more, which at times I feel a little detached from. These things don't spoil the game in any way I'm probably just being greedy, I'll keep my fingers crossed for the sequel!

What was great about the first one was having no HUD, it really made the experience more film-like.

Got this on the weekend, very good game! Some of the best graphics I've seen on xbox, very atmospheric. If you crank up the difficulty it will really make you tense, great stuff.

My tip is to upgrade the plasma cutter as much as you can with the power nodes. It's the most basic weapon but probably the most effective all rounder against necromorphs.

I completed it at the weekend and really *enjoyed*, if that's the word, it.

The only bit I found a bit tedious was the length of time you spend back in the Ishy. The way they portrayed it was excellent, but having played through them before it got a little boring after a while - Loved the bubble wrap and red tape though and the subtle clean here signs.

Is it worth a buy, or more of a rental title. Should I play the first before i play the second?

I have my love film subscription, and just finished playing Bioshock 1 (which if you havent played it is absolutely amazing) Looking for something to recreate the 'Oh my god what is that noise/singing/scraping' effect.

Got this at the weekend, haven't been able to play much of it though.

But blimey so far it's excellent, rather nerve jangling and very well realised.

I haven't played the first one, but i thought the "previously in Deadspace" option which summarises what happened in the first one was rather good, and sets you up nicely.

I've just go to Chapter 2, and really getting the hang off the controls like telekenises and stasis. Another thing i liked was just starting chapter two i decided to double back on myself to the maintenance room to fettle my gun a bit more, went back to a door and got jumped by a necromorph, it scared the bejesus out of me as i'd thought i'd cleared the area, but he'd jumped out of an air vent.

Highly recommend this game so far!

The first one was very good, if you want atmosphere then you will definitely be pleased as it has that in bucketloads. It's really well made, the only negative thing I'd say about the first one is that the tasks themselves could be a little dull at times.

You NEED to play 1 first - it's very much a story driven game. I think my total play time was about 10-12 hours, so doable over a sad lonely weekend. Not sure of the replay value TBH and I haven't tried online yet.

I'm a good way into this now, it's a lot better than the first one, especially the way the chapters flow together. The first game felt like lots of individual levels joined together by the train system, I like how there's no definite end to each chapter, they all just blend together.

I'm finding it quite easy on Normal difficulty though, I've died a couple of times but have yet to run out of ammo or get stuck anywhere.

I started on the + game a few nights ago. It's a very different game starting with all the kit you had at the end of the first run through though. Much more action orientated as you're tooled up the eyeballs.

Also tried online briefly, and found it boring.

Do all the weapons and suits you bought on first play carry over into the second playthrough?

Which weapons did you upgrade with the nodes? I transfered my nodes from a fully upgraded plasma cutter onto the pulse rifle instead, really effective against swarms of necros.
