The Mx5 may have to be replaced with something like an LPG vectra frown The commute's never below 4k rpm and it's too thirsty.

HOWEVER!

I've decided to buy myself a treat for track/back roads, budget about 5k, maybe a little more.
My immediate thoughts are a Fisher Fury fireblade/R1 or maybe a 7-type.
My target's at least 250bhp/tonne (my old racing fury was about this)
I did see a car-engined 7-type car with 180bhp ford engine in. Not sure about the trade-off between sequential box and 12k redline for a useful reverse (Don't want electric reverse, I might go to work in it now and then) and maybe a few more creature comforts, like a windscreen.

Any other ideas? It doesn't HAVE to be a kit car. Maybe something like a hardcore MX5 with about 300bhp? Drop top isn't vital either, but might be nice. I've thought about a Chimaera but I'm not sure if it's a little too far from stripped out lightweight for me.

Ladies and gentlemen, the floor is yours.

Well, a Chimaera would be good from where I am sitting. Fairly robust Rover V8 for starters.

Or perhaps
