Does anyone know of a product that enables you to change the colour of wheel alloys for a few weeks or months, before then simply washing if off to reveal the undamaged original colour and finish?

I'm looking to change my Tuscan II S wheels from silver to graphite/black for a short while, but I do not want to go to the expense of getting them professionally repainted.

I have found 'Dupli-Color Car Art' which (apparently!) lets you apply temporary vehicle graphics from an aerosol can without damaging the original finish underneath. I understand that it will not wash off in the rain but can be easily removed when needed with soap, water and a sponge or using a power jet washer.

Is there anything similar for alloys that anyone knows of (other than simply letting them get very dirty, before some bright spark makes that comment!)??

Granted, that's the obvious option! However, I saw a comment on a US chatroom that it was not suitable for alloys with a clear laquer coating - which is most these days!

Would vinyl work?

Vinyl? As in getting them wrapped? I have seen someone suggest this before, but no one was able to say whether it could be done......

I had my wheels completely refurbed for about £50 each. Why not just get them colour changed professionaly and then after a month change them back ? Getting a colour wrap in vinyl would be almost as expensive I would imagine.

That's £400 to change them and change them back again!! A little costly (not to mention a real pain in the 'a' in getting it to the garage and back each time I want a change).

I'm looking for an option that would enable me to go silver one week and anthracite the next - if the desire so took me.

Why not get a spare set of wheels? Around £250 seems to get 4 wheels and legal tyres, then have one set silver and the other anthracite. Then you could just sell them on when you get bored.

Try getting some celulose thinners on a rag, and gently rub it on a non obvious bit of the wheels, and see if the lacquer goes soft or desolves. If it remains hard, and its not affected by paint solvents, so you could then spray car paint (as in dupli colour type stuff) and simply remove it with plenty of solvent afterwards. I know from experience the clear lacquer used on my Fondmetals was not effected at all, as I tried to tidy them up with a fresh coat of silver, but as it did not improve things, the paint all wiped off easily afterwards.

Maybe I shouldn't ask this and be soo nosey but why do you want to do this anyway?

Maybe some one will agree to swap wheels for a short time!!

Having a spare set of wheels would be great - once I have a garage. One of the down sides of living in London....

I'm liking the idea of trying out the cellulose thinner.

As to why I want to do this: I like the silver spiders for everyday use, but for something like a blast down to Le Mans etc, anthracite would be a nice change.

25Meters is about £50, you should be able to do them yourself, depends how perfect you want it to look.
