I saw a really strange thing today, A really old couple that looked like someones grand-parents, the bloke was wearing a tweed jacket, flat cap, had a straining expression on his wrinkled old face. The woman was your typical blue rinser, with the perm and all.
Yet they were driving (albeit quite slowly) an S-reg 2dr Subaru Impreza WRX in 'Prodrive blue'.
What makes a nice old couple choose this for a runabout? Maybe they liked the colour, or the huge picnic table fastened to the boot lid, or maybe they liked the nice soft plush seats and the generous ammounts of walnut on the dash. Maybe they liked the fact that it's nice and nippy around Morrison's car park.

Really Weird stuff!

I agree...I've got an impreza and so I tend to notice them on the roads perhaps more than most.

On the whole they are owned by late twenties males. But occaisionally you seem to get old giffers driving them about. Quite bizarre. I think it must be 'cos they are loved by farmers and when farmers get older they stick with 'em?

Damned if I really know though!

They're perfectly ok in something safe and sluggish, like an impreza. It will be a bit of a worry if they get into something fast though. Like an Evo Extreme.

Funnily enough the other day I saw an Evo VII with a 40/50yr old woman driving, and I wondered what she was doing owning a machine like that

Am I really reading this? My father is in his late 50's and still one of the best drivers I know. He drives an Impreza WRX STi v6, having owned TVRs, Porsches and Lotuses (Lotii?) in the past.

And as for a certain Mr. S. Moss....

Jeez, some people are so ageist. Am I going to be required to sell my TVR in 8 years time when I turn 40 as by that time I shouldn't be "owning a machine like that"?

Ok, fair enough. But seriously, who are we to judge the driving ability & car choice of someone simply on their age and sex?

Personally I think it's fine if they drive a Mac1. They're only going to be doing 29mph anyway. My Grandad is a good example of old numpty that shouldn't be on the road. At 80 he has trouble with his nissan sunny's performance! Stubborn old git won't give it up though.

But don't you thinnk it's abit odd seeing an old couple with flat caps etc in a car like that. A Morgan/Jag etc yes, but it just seems so out of place

Feel fairly wrinkly myself somedays-doesn't mean I've stopped appreciating the finer (or indeed faster) things in life. I wouldn't let Mr. McNab read this thread if I were you !

She was doing about 20mph in a 40limit. It was also as much because she looked the epitomy of a metro driver.

And w/b Jon.
