Gran Turismo 5 tuning thread

I spent ages tuning one of my cars only to realise that I'd made it worse, and resetting everything back to standard made it quicker. As I haven't got a clue what I am doing, I thought I'd start this thread for people to discuss tuning in GT5 so we all have a chance to learn more about it.

I was thinking of opening a thread on this some 1/2 hour ago! Hopefully some of the quick guys wont mind giving some tips to the lesser mortals amongst us. I know most of the basic concepts from 20 years of RC racing, but they dont always seem to work within the game. If anyone can get my EVO9 to steer more mid corner and exit they are far better than me!!

Good idea this. Getting a tune of t'internet can be a random process. So this could be a good place to get advice from people who know their stuff (not me mind you).

Was useful as a start point for improving a car but most are aero modified. Can then tweak to hearts content

It's a lot of fun setting up cars, although in GT5 it can be hard to see the differences. It's somehow easier in iRacing since you can measure the tyre temps which really tells you what's going on at the points where the car and road meet...

It's still a lot of fun in GT5 though, it's pretty satisfying to start with a car that handles badly and make it better, e.g. my RM Tuscan had a lot of understeer and the Elise's have a lot of oversteer, so starting with those cars it's hard to make it worse!

For beginners I'd recommend the "SETUP GUIDE FOR GTR2" by LmS (you can find on google) which gives you a good idea on where to start and how to go about setting up your car.

It's great when you get a sweet spot: my TTS is handling sweetly now (lowered and a bit more camber). I utterly messed up my highest-tuned NSX though, can't work out why it's so twitchy...
