If he had his rifle with him, he could have just shot the tt.

Disquieting they never found the gun, incredibly brave actions from the soldier if slightly foolhardy.

I kept reading the robbers name as Manhood hehe

Brave, if somewhat crazy, chap though. Good job it was a rep gun or he'd have been dead.

Very brave if some what daft thing to do. I would guess he now has a healthy account balance at Ladbrookes.

Brave, yes, but I have to agree with others - probably not wise.

Sadly, in many parts of Birmingham the soldier could easily think he was back in Afghanistan.

Not quite sure how it's even brave really...either the gun works and he's dead and just left his wife and kids in poverty or the gun doesnt work - in which case it's as though he's tackling an unarmed junkie, and I'd expect a squadie to come out on top.

Even if the gun was real and even if he managed to fire you are assuming the guy has even held a weapon before never mind shot anything.
It's not like in the films, even at that close range you can still miss. Badly.

Or, the squaddie is suicidal... (like in Lethal Weapon when Riggs holds the gun to his mouth and Murtagh catches his finger! hehe)

Yes - but it's still dumb. There are only two options, get shot or dont get shot. Your point is that "dont get shot" is quite likely....so what? If I said you could play Russian roulette with a 100 chamber revolver you're still daft to do so without good reason. This guy gambled he would not get shot...if he's right, he wins (because he's a squadie against a junkie)...if he's wrong he's dead. It's not a "brave" gamble.....it's dumb, and for what? For his wife, ok...his kids, ok.....but for someone else's money? Dumb.

I want to know why the crack addict wasn't done for attempted murder? He did pull the trigger of a gun he (obvioudly) thought was real.

To the soldier, good on him, well done, a bit foolhardy, but with what he's already had to do regularly on tour, this would just be another day.

As has been said, you can still miss from very close range, expecially if you've never shot before, are High as a kite and generally acting like some tt in a movie.

Genuinely believe I would not miss at that close range.

God, and specifically Jesus intervened to save him, thus proving that Jesus > other unspecified deities.

wink

Still I agree it was a bit of a gamble

Being a Krav Maga instructor, I'd fancy my chances (if my life depended on it) against an inexperienced gun-man in a close quarter scenario.

Handguns don't scare me anywhere near as much as knives do!

Anyway, what this soldier did was stupid and suicidal. I can't believe his training would teach him to do anything like this. Running straight at an armed target from anything more than a metre or two goes against everything that I know of firearms defence.

Who in their right mind would risk their children's father's life for some insured bookmaker's cash?!?!

It reminds me of that Northern loony who battered that skinny runt with a chair last year in a similar incident. Equally as crazy.

Both were very very lucky! The soldier should, however, know better.

Inexperienced shooters often can't handle the recoil though mate. Especially if they go all Hollywood, shooting with one hand etc.

Agree with the sentiment though.
