VW group 1.9 TDI engine- ever 6 speed gears???

After having driven replacement Insignia am wondering about whether

any car in VW group ever got 6 speeed gear box for 1.9 tdi engine???

I currently drive MK2 - 07-1.9 TDI Octy and feel may be 6 th gear would have further improved the fuel consumption...

I'm sure I had a leased Passat for a while with a six speed a good few years ago, that would have been before the 2.0 diesels

Mark IV Golf TDI130 had 6 speed boxes.

I think all the PD diesels got 6 speed boxes?

So 115, 130 and 150bhp 1.9 PD TDi.

130 and 150 definitely did.

My 100bhp 1.9 Tdi PD engined Polo (56 plate) only has 5 gears (plus reverse before someone tries to be smart )

Almost all the PD's. Everything from the 115 upwards got 6 forward gears, the 100/105 models got 5 gears.

The older 90 and 110 bhp models were 5 gear too.

ALso, you will find with the actual ratios, the 6th gear on a 6 speed is not greatly longer than 5th on a 5 speed. 5th gear on my fabia (vRS based) will be shorter than the 5th on your car. Usually done when there is a higher top speed. Top is about 115 on a PD100/105 so a 5 speed is suitable. Top on a PD130/PD150 is rated to around 125 to 135 mph so longer box needed.

Personally I like the 6 speed for the closeness of the gears. (I have had 5 speed & 6 speed in my car so tried and tested both )

MK5 1.9 Tdi Sport has 6 speed, whereas the 1.9 tdi se only has 5 ...

My old 8P A3 105 TDI was only a 5-speed... It was louder than war over 75mph*

They did but it depended on the car and trim. As pointed out a few posts up the Golf MK5 1.9 TDi Sport 105 got 6-gears, but the S/SE/Match had just a 5-speed. The Touran with the same engine also got a 6-speed box.

The 130 bhp diesel 6 speed engine was used across the VAG group from about 2003.

In had minor differences in each group.

Was a very sweet engine in the Audi.
