Has anybody slept in their car and enjoyed it? I ask as a few days ago i locked myself out of my house, out in the country, at 1am having had a few, ahem, drinks. I had no phone, no neighbours and obviously i wasn't going to drive. Luckily i had my car key in my pocket so i climbed in the back and laid across the rear bench - admittedly i have a large car (E38 7-Series!) - but i couldn't believe how comfy it was! It was like lying on a big sofa but way more comfortable.

It's got me thinking, i could be saving £600 a month by living in here instead of my house. Come to think of it the car has it all; comfy bed, relaxing front chairs, entertainment (radio, CDs & tv!), 'shower' (sit on the roof with the windscreen washers going!?), cooking facilities (in summer the bonnet, winter after engine warm throw on some eggs & bacon every morning?), plus it can take me places my house can't....i think i have solved this country's petrolheads money problems - Live in your car!

I mean, obviously you will be repellent to women, but hey, you can have half-done eggs and wake up with leather stuck to your cheek, but just think of the savings!

Absolutely treacherous thing to do. Slept in my Focus with a bloke and 2 ladies (classy)after a party once and it was hell. Took me about a month to get rid of the condensation as well. Barely got a winks sleep.

Closest I've come is laying across the three front seats of a Merc 709D van. There's a big gap between them there seats, and it was a st place to sleep. +1 for condensation too, even in something that size! I'm sure it was a bit less uncomfortable in an E38, but still, I'm surprised you actually enjoyed it!

I slept in the back of my Bora recently due to the same reasons, albeit i live in town but had no phone to ask some1 for a couch.

At 6ft2" the rear bench aint a good place to be. surprisingly warm considering it was about freezing outside.

Drunk with the keys in your pocket = Drink Driving.

There was a poster on here who got done IIRC - drunk incharge of a vehicle or something? He was sleeping on the back seat but parked on a side road.

In the new Mazda5.. You put the front seat all the way forwards, and the back of it laid right back. Then sit in the (middle) rear seats and recline them too, you then have your legs on the back of the front seat, bum in the seat of the rear and its dead comfy.

Not forever though hehe

+1 On this, in my youth I was homeless for 2 years and am ashamed to admit that about 9 months of that period was spent sleeping in various cars on a used car sales lot that the dealer left unlocked. A time of my life I'm not proud of, but at the same time has helped me become the person I am today.

I fell asleep in the MX5 on the beach once with a young lady beside me, I had a lovely few hours kip & it was all VERY warm, cosy & relaxing after a midnight run down to there.

She however was petrified of us getting washed away & apparently was pretty cold the whole night hehe Woops.

The amount of miles you've done in your MX5 recently you do practically live in it! hehe

I lived in a Merc C Class for a week at Bisley, was meant to be camping but the torrential rain suggested I'd be better with a roof over my head. It was fine.

Also sleep in the car at Rally GB, depending on if I can find somewhere nice to pitch the tent (some stages are great and have woods, others are just open areas of wasteland atop a mountain which would see a tent blown flat in seconds.
