I'm all for Multifunction Steering Wheels, but I've been delivered a Mazda3 as a lease car and it has 18 buttons on the wheel alone .... Too much!!!

Any other car (short of an F1 car) with more?

Miscounted .. it's not 17, it's 18 ... Hells Bells!

Yeah it is ridiculous I often get to drive my bosses Mazda3 and I couldn't live with that many buttons on the steering wheel.

Wow ... I don't think there are 17 buttons on the whole of my car.

I count 18 + a blank one biggrin

These 18 buttons are 18 buttons that do not have to appear elsewhere though. Ergonomically, is it not better not to have to remove your hands off the steering wheel? Probably too many there though, it's a balancing act. I see the cruise control is there too, many cars have them on a stalk (or button at end of a stalk) which is, arguably, a worse place for it.

Don't have that problem with a Kia. No buttons on the wheel at all. Although it has got the excuse the radio which came as standard is like something from Halfrauds. Some JVC something. Old Clio had buttons for the radio on the wheel. Only problem was the Radio kept draining the battery. Well it was French.

I think my car only has five buttons (and three knobs) in total and of those, only the horn is on the steering wheel.

The BMW has 8 buttons on the steering wheel (9 if you count the horn) and all the toys - plenty of things to press. In contrast the VX has a total of 11 buttons/knobs across the entire car (not including the radio). 3 for the heater, 4x lights, wiper stalk, indy stalk, horn, and odometer reset.

Ferrari 458 has loads.

engine start,
suspension setting,
high-beams,
left-turn signal,
right-turn signal,
windshield wipers,
manettino knob (adjusts stability-control and transmission settings)
(on the back, gearchange).

ETA: missed the horn, roughly at 10 and 2 on the wheel.

It's a wonder they didn't go the whole hog and put the clutch on it along with a button for forcing hot orange juice into your gob via a tube.

I have that steering wheel in my Mazda3, and have no problem with it all. It has all the features like Bluetooth, sat nav etc easily to hand, which I find much easier than having to look all over the place for the controls....

It wasn't too long ago that people were complaining on here about touch screens, saying how distracting it was to keep looking at the screen to operate things like heaters etc... You can't have it all ways

I'm sorry, but that is just the most stupid wheel design ever, what was wrong with stalks?

No idea pal, I didn't say I liked it.

Stalks are probably not "F1" enough for Ferrari's target poseur market.

Misunderstanding. I wasn't having a go... I think you've hit the nail on the head with the F1 comment though!

Just my opinion but I think cars are getting stupid with all this electric stuff. All I want is controls for my heater, lights, indicators & electric windows. I don't need anything on my steering wheel apart from volume controls for stereo. I don't want automatic lights, locks or wipers, I don't want anything that beeps at me all the time, in fact I don't want anything beeping at me ever.

I get the hump with my van because the wipers go across four times when I squirt the windscreen washer. I don't want them to go four times, in winter when the nozzles keep freezing & unfreezing I test them with a quick squirt & if they're still frozen the bloody washers go four times & I can't see st. What's wrong with once!

I don't want air-conditioning, I like it when it's hot & I've got the window open, there's nothing better after a long hot summers day driving for work & cruising home on some motorway or other in the dark with the windows open.

Sorry , going off topic a bit smile My point is that I honestly think that all this mostly pointless electrical wizardry like the eighteen buttons on your steering wheel & all this automatic every thing is somehow ruining the down to earth seat of your pants motoring experience, & I think kids today are missing out.
