just went to pick up my mazda 6 mps from the main dealer for sticking rear brakes and i took the keys been told the car was clean and nothing to pay as its under warrenty but to fix the sticking brakes i will need to fork out £317+ vat for them to skim my rear discs! anyway i laughed off there price and got in my car, not even 50 yards down the raod i noticed they have put a 1.5 ft crack straight across the middle of my windscreen!
i took it back within 3 mns of picking it up and i was greeted with i must have had a stone chip it or tere is a old stone chip thats repaired and that caused it, mazda done the repair! i told him that it was fine before i gave it to them and i have a witness to prove this and it was damaged when i picked it up so i gave him my key and told him to get his manager to call me in the morning to arrange when they would fix it.
i was told the manager will phone me but the service guy doubts they will replace it!
what do you guys think and surely they have to replace it by law?

You drove away and didn't check for damage, and it wasn't till you were off the premises that you noticed the foot and a half long crack.

Can you prove it was there before you left their premises and that it wasn't caused by you hitting a pothole or similar when you were driving?

You'd probably be lucky, considering the work they were carrying out was nowhere near the windscreen. Who knows, you might get lucky and they might be feeling charitable, but I doubt it, given that as I said, their work didn't go anywhere near the front of the car.

£50 will replace the screen (your insurance excess), and £50 will put new rear discs on as well if you use a Ford part.

I had a similar thing happen to my Elise after a Lotus dealer had fixed something. They claimed it already had a crack before I took it in (which wasn't true) but I accepted their compromise of them paying my 50 quid excess for my insurance to replace it.

So I would say stand your ground if you believe you're in the right.

So you didn't notice the 1 and a half foot crack in your window till you got a bit down the road?

The windscreen replacement act 2011. Have you not heard of it before?

The Mazda tech will have had to complete a body inspection sheet prior to starting work on the vehicle so ask to see a copy and if there is no mention of the crack then it is there in black and white that you left it with them undamaged

biggrin
100yards is the gap between 2 streetlights. Most people would have gone further than that before noticing and taken less than 3 minutes to cover the distance

Sounds as if for all intents and purposes you noticed it as soon as you drove off and turned around as soon as you could to tell them

Make sure you don't play this card until you are there though and get them to fetch the sheet in front of you- anything else and I wouldn't put it past them to alter the sheet that was filled in.

Really. Could you at least try, even a little bit?

I have seen better spelling from my scrabble set that I accidentally left in the spin dryer.

You know, a little punctuation and capitalisation? Maybe a touch of a paragraph too?

It isn't too hard.

I'd inspect the underside of the vehicle whilst at the garage too. Has been known for windscreens to crack when driven off the ramp incorrectly.

Hi,
As I thought had a phone call from the service manager today saying how the damage was already there when I gave it to them! Told them it was rubbish and I have a witness to prove it!
Was then told must have been a chip in the screen that caused it when they jacked the car up!I told them they must have jacked the car up and I was told that was impossible! Then I was told just pick your car up as there is no chance we will replace it or give you any money at all and they will just leave the car out the front! They did ask me if I wanted to pay them 380 quid to skim the rear discs while they had the car though lol.
Complaint to mazda uk coming up and a full independant inspection of the whole car too as I don't think they want to admit loads of warrenty work needs to be done.

Tell us why they wouldn't want to admit to warranty work? We do get paid for warranty work, so its beneficial to do it.

I have had garages lie about it before. My seat cupra had a shagged turbo and gearbox that the dealer wouldn't admit to until I had it inspected and they ended up refunding me for the car! Was going to cost to much to put right.

I find pretty much all garages don't like picking up warrenty work and all of a sudden when the warrenty is up the car has all the faults you told them about showed up to be true on the next service.
I do hate how doggy most the car trade is.
