My wife needs one new boot, on the front, on her Clio 197 Sport. She has a Conti on the offside so I'd personally go for the same as a replacement for the worn one.

However, I promised that I would do some checking.....

What rubber are people wearing for front wheel drive hot hatches at the moment? What is coming up as good? She doesn't drive it hard and it's never seen a track so she doesn't need anything extreme.

TIA

Conti sport contacts are Good tyres so I'd stick with them, but if you want a change then I'd say Eagle F1 Gsd3's or Toyo T1R's thumbup

Both miserable old tyres from the early 90's. Even mid-range tyres from Kumho/Hankook/Uniroyal far outperform both the GSD3 and T1R.

Personally I'd say fit the same tyre as is on there - mixing tyres on an axle has always been a bad idea in my opinion.

On the Cup I always use Michelin Exalto PE 2s. I'd imagine similar would be a good choice for the 197 although please, get two if not four. It's bizarre if not dangerous to mix tyres types and tread depths.

I disagree with this after experience of both tyres, although it's true that the T1R's are sensitive to application (great for lightweight cars).

I agree with the tyre types; treads, the way that she drives, I wouldn't worry too much about. She's more likely to get into problems due to not checking her pressures frown

Exactly T1R's are great cheap option on hothatches and other lighter cars, also the GSD3's are fantastic tyres soooooo...... eerrmmmmm shhhhh hehe

Didn't the T1-R replace the T1-S in 2004 or thereabouts?

IME Kumho Ecsta's are not as good as T1-R's, back to back on my old 182.
I don't think the T1R directly replaced the 's' I beleive it's more of step up in grip and dynamics as in softer compound etc.
T1R's are the best value - performance ratio tyre for light weight cars, the sidewalls dont really cope with heavier machinery.... that's when you consider Eagle F1's etc

P.s I run T1R's on My Coupe with pressures %12 over standard and they're FAB.

Stick with the Conti's, very good tires. I have a set of Uniroyal Rainsport2's on my Ibiza and they have excellent grip in the wet and good grip in the dry. They essentially are a budget version of the Conti's really.
