I would be interested to hear from anyone with a view on this. Looking to upgrade from my Monaro.

What are your requirements?

Isn't the M5 a little different to the RS4 and the Evo?

... I'd say the Evo is left behind a bit in this race.
In real world driving, I very much doubt it... smile

RS4 for daily year round use, especially if you live somewhere that rains a lot, but the M5 is the best of the 3. The EVO is just too uncomfortable to be in for any length of time and therefore more of a toy than the others.

RS4 prices have suffered recently so it's a good buy but it's not a cheap car to run.

... well the old Evo was quicker round the Top Gear track than the new M5

1:26.0 - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR FQ320
1:26.2 - BMW M5 (E60)

But yes they're built for different things and priced accordingly.

It depends what you want from your car. If you want something to eat miles then the M5 would be best, but if you want something to rag the crap out of on coutry roads then the Evo will be best.

If i lived in city or suburbs, and mostly commuted with the occasional country/motorway blat then probably the RS4
If i lived i a small town and did alot of A roads and motorway with the odd city/country/trackday visits, then M5
If I lived in the country and liked track days and tearing around the B roads, and rarely visited motorways, then The Evo.

Has this helped.. ?

eta - why does it keep inserting me in quotes .. ??

Seems reasonable to me. I love B roads and trackdays but work requires me to do a lot of mway. So I ended up with an Evo for that and BMW for day to day.

I have been through the same thing recently although I looked at slightly older cars as my budget was £20k.

I drove a couple of nice E39 M5's, the E60's I could afford were a bit ropy. I drove an array of Evo's and Subaru's a couple of older RS4's plus loads of other odds and sods, everyone has a different view on what they want but I spent all I could on an immaculate RS4 B5 and picked it up last week.

It's just so beautifully put together, feels rapid enough and I love it. Best to drive as many as you can, only you will know what floats your boat.
