Having had nearly 6 weeks almost immobile with a gammy foot (well, not driving/working and almost being marooned at home so no gym) I've started to put on the lbs.

I have a field next door to me and I'm quite liking the idea of hanging a punch-bag up from one of the trees, having a few runs around the field (when the foot isn't so gammy) and then punching hell out of a bag to release all my pent-up frustrations at life.

So, any pointers to a bag that can live its life outside in all weathers, and what would be a good weight/size, considering I'm 6' 4" ish?

Many thanks.

eta - did search, but nothing about keeping one outside.

Found this - suppose for a start it should be ok?

It's ok, I'm not a weirdo.

But thanks, anyway.

A decent punchbag (leather, PVC tends to split) is anything from £70 upwards. I think they're mostly stuffed with rags, so you could prob. fill one yourself if you've got enough holey pants and dodgy Hawaiian shirts.

As for leaving one outside, I'm not sure how it would fare. The punchbag at my gym hangs from the ceiling via a metal chain clipped onto a ceiling-mounted carabiner, so it's not just a case of slinging it round a branch. Also, it weighs at least 70lbs (5st) so whatever it's suspended from needs to be very strong.

If you've got the space indoors you might be better off buying one that comes with a stand...

I actually still wear my dodgy Hawaiians so I'm not using those redface

Would straw or hay suffice as stuffing?
Got plenty of that around and hay really is quite heavy when packed down.

I assume a bag only needs stuffing as far as when it's punched a slight indentation is left?

You could, but it's more likely to naturally degrade than old clothes.

If you want to focus on speed then you could always just buy an inflatable punchbag (you fill the base with sand or water etc) and just use handwraps to protect your knuckles.

If you actually want to throw some heavy punches and build power then you need a heavy bag. You might be surprised and what it takes to fill...
