I'm having problems with my BT phone line in that someone keeps stealing the phone cable and putting thousands of homes and businesses in my area offline for up to a couple of weeks at a time. This is a real pain and BT are less than helpful when it comes to assistance or refunds, their latest trick is to charge me for each incoming call that was diverted to my mobile last time this happened.
While I know it's not Sky's fault I am thinking of switching to Virgin because they use fibre optics which aren't affected by the outages. So for anyone that uses Virgin do you have or had any issues with them and how easy are they to resolve?
Mods please move if this is in the wrong place.

The products (in my case Broadband only) are excellent and I have never had my service disrupted....until last week. I've been with Virgin since the NTL days.

Like many large organisations the customer service / technical support is shocking.

obviously BT's fault the local pikeys are nicking the cable.

they have engineers sitting around waiting to replace the stolen cables i'm sure.

Copper theft affects the whole country, last year was bad,but a few convictions have solved the issue in a few areas

I realise it's not BT's fault but their attitude to any help they feel they may offer is appalling. My question was about Virgin's service not BT's pikey problem.

I had a problem with my set top box recently. It was working, but the on demand stuff wasn't. The box was about 5.5 years old, if not older.

Called Virgin on the Wednesday evening.

Saturday morning I had a new (HD compatible, as it happens) set top box, for free.

Sky would have told you to buy a new box, as they sell rather than rent the box to you, after 12 months any problems are your, not theirs.

We've got Virgin phone tv and broadband with two V+ boxes. Their product is superb I think.

And they're bringing out a new TiVo which looks awesome

Just switched to virgin from sky, for the same package, (phone,tv,and broadband) virgin is a tenner a month cheaper. You get more as well with the on demand stuff, 2 weeks in and very pleased so far. Customer services are shocking though.

It all sounds promising but why did you need customer services and are they UK based or abroad?

Same here, Once you have managed to get Virgin Media installed everything works fine. Customer service is still very poor, but no worse than my experiences with BT.

Same. Been with them over 12 years and they always look after me. Best customer service in the business. I also have BT broadband in the same house for the company, and by comparison Virgin has performed better. The speeds with cable are not comparable with ADSL/SDSL and the 100mb which Ihave been Beta testing is imminent for release.

The only negative is the HD TV, as you don't get as many channels as Sky but there again I rarely watch it so it doesn't bother me. Catchup TV is all I really use if I've missed something and it's free.

V+ box?
I swapped from Sky+ to Virgin as I already had their BB and 'phone line and to save a few quid.
The V+ box I've got is terrible. Always stalling and generally being a bh.
I'm waiting for the TiVO box TBH.
But their broadband and 'phone is excellent. So much so that we've even got their mobiles too (Just got mrs WY on a £10 pm rolling sim with 800min, ultd texts and web).

Oh BTW my biggest bugbare with the V+ is there is not a button to record a series on a ad like on sky.
