The most telling quote

"Unfortunately, the real pirates are living in luxuary sending their out instructions to the 'pirates' who actually board the ships (who are little more than poor fishermen) ....... The gangs / groups who organise the captures get the proceeds"

It is more of a pity that there aren't a few spare JDAMs around in the arsenal of the global police, so that they could target these luxury-lifestyle head honchos and 'send them the love'.

Good drills by the boarding party.

Are fishermen, or were?

Do you really think that someone can walk up to a bunch of fishermen, tell them to go and commit a crime, and expect them to come back and freely hand over their ill-gotten gains?! Sounds like tripe to me.

Not really, in the Third World that's the way business is run.
Person with money buys an asset, fishing boat, taxi, market stall rights and rents them, often daily, to somebody to operate it.

How would you feel about doing a bit of piracy if your 'boss' was holding your family hostage? This is the way these people get fishermen to work for them.

One good thing about piracy off that coast, fish stocks are recovering now the Japanese, Russians and South Koreans are not hovering up everything in sight.

Do you have anything to suggest that this is common place?
