As a rookie 'S' owner I regret if my requests for assistance have been raked over time and time again, but here goes: Lifting/dropping the off-side window takes about twice the time of the near-side. The vendor of the car thought that it may be due to 'pinching' in the runners - if so, would silicone spray help here?
Presumably the motor itself could be at fault, but wouldn't that manifest itself as not working at all?. Also, looks like a new battery before too long - any recommendations for a V8 (the present one is some unknown/unmarked foreign item). Any thoughts on the above would be much appreciated.

I've got a Bosch Silver 86

which fits the tray and has been fantastic. It starts the engine without a hiccup when it hasn't been fired up for 3 or 4 weeks.

That will certainly do no harm but mine noticeably improved after removing the door card and liberally greasing the winding screw mechanism bit that actually raises and lowers the glass. A mucky job, no easy way other than a handful of grease and squidging it into the open tube thing that the screw (turned by the motor) runs in.

Possibly taking the motor out and cleaning the commutator and brushes might help but didn't go that far incase I broke something !

Silicone/grease is only a very short term fix, and a waste of time IMHO. The felt rubs off the runners over time, so just replace them. And don't spray anything on the new felts. Keep them dry. HTH

Didn't make any difference to the speed of lift on mine although the new trim does keep the rain out a bit better.

I had the same problem on my S2, after taking everything to bits and greasing it turned out to be the electrical supply and a new wire cured the problem. Worth a try before you get too deep in taking things apart!
