Nikon D50 not working, help please

After reading the "how to photograph the moon" thread, I though I'd have a go. So got my D50 but it wasn't working.

Switch it on, and the "no memory card" warning is displayed in the viewfinder. I have removed and refitted the card a number of times, checked it's not locked, and even formatted it now. Still the warning is there.

But also with it switched on, pressing the MENU button does nothing, the screen remains off.

I inherited the camera so don't have the user manual etc, so found one on line but it doesn't mention this in the troubleshooting section.

Does anyone have an idea what else I can try?

Mrs Get has a D50... just took the memory card out and pressed menu button and menu's arrived. I think it's got big problems.

Is the battery fully charged? Maybe not enough power?
There is a (very) small reset button on the base plate – press that for a couple of seconds and hopefully that will cure it.
Sometimes removing and reinserting the battery cures small problems – it did for me once.

Yep fully charger. I've tried the reset button, no change.

I'm coming to the same conclusion as GetCarter
