Am I alone in thinking that this great British Christmas tradition has been raped of all its classic flavours and its overall 'quality'.

I bought a tin of Roses and a tin of quality street a couple of months before Christmas and looked forward to having the 'old faves' around the house over the festive period - but I've been nothing short of disappointed.

The Roses were fine, each flavour distinct and 'did what it said on the tin'.

However, the Quality Street are just awful. Virtually every sweet has a slight hint of orangeyness about it, the classic selection seems to have changed with the times (and although I dont miss the coffee cream type things), again, Im left underwhelmed.

The chocolate is not rich or creamy in any way and feels a bit like the plasticy cheap st you used to get with bargain chocolate sweets.

So, is it just me or has Quality Street lost it's....... quality?

None of the 'Christmas' Chocolates are anything like they used to be.

QS has perhaps been hit the hardest in terms of what we have now Vs olden days of yore.

I've always been a Roses fan but, like the OP, tend to buy a tub of each at Christmas. And I actually think that it's Roses which has lost its way and, yellow dustbin lids aside, I'm starting to prefer the QS selection.

Though Heroes and Celebrations trump both Roses and QS these days.

Same with the old 'quarters'.

Strawberry sheberts were brilliant but now they're grey import quality.

Copy sweets????

S'funny, they are my least favourite. In fact, I actually end up binning them.

Funny this - I was thinking that Quality St are my out & out favourites, maily because I like tofees & caramels. Mrs P love sthe rest.

Roses? Not so keen. And as for Heroes/celebrations, I can eat them, but think they don't work for me, they seem to water down the good bits of the originals, so they all seem a sugary nothingness.

Just a sign of the times then...

I was hoping someone else might confirm my suspicions that the 'overall flavour' im picking up in the tin, isnt just in my head wobble

Well, the Roses went down a lot better, and I guess for my era these are the two 'Xmas Tins' to have... Maybe not this year.
