This summer I'm going to need a few casks of ale for a little gathering I've got planned.

The question is, where can I get them from? Google isn't helping much...

If you have any breweries/micro breweries localy they will usualy do you a pin or whatever, will charge you for the cask possibly unless you have your own.

Any local small brewery will supply you your casks, they will probably hire you the gear to dispense as well.

Cash & Carry have some casks if you have one near, or any similar trade outlet worth a look.
Best bet have a look in good old yellow pages for a real ale suplier. eg Small beer in Lincoln have a large choice, had a couple of 'Hob Goblin' bitters and Carling lagers from them for Birthday bash last year.
You need a cooler and gas for lager tho . Real ale served from a tap in keg but needs to stand for 24hrs to settle unless you go for bright beer which can be served straight away. Lot easier imo.
Amazing how much folk can drink when its on tap wink

Zerodegrees microbreweries do 5L and 50L kegs (hire of dispensing equipment on top).

They seriously dont make a bad beer, whatever your taste.

I'm in Berko so they're local and already on my list! But looking for some variety, so maybe a couple from there and one or two from elsewhere would be ideal.

Just google beer wholesalers. Not bookers or anything like that but suppliers to pubs and clubs. Not too cheap but you can sometimes pick up short dated stock

Otley Brewery do some very nice ales in 10L or 20L boxes. O8 is an exceptionally good strong ale, but at 8% you'd better not serve that one on tap wink

Try Hook Norton or Wychwood Brewery both in Oxfordshire and will supply beer by the firkin. Both have wonderful brews and someone at Wychwood has a great sense of humour, have a look at the website. Both also offer Brewery Tours and maybe a free beer!

Now make your own jokes up using the word "Firkin"

Can recomend calling West Berkshire Brewery in Yattendon. Several types available from quaffing ale to a darker pint and then lighter golden ale.

Worth trying are Good Old Boy, Dr Hexters and Full Circle

http://www.wbbrew.com/contactus.html

Also Loddon near Henley if it's not to far. Again, decent range. Try Ferrymans Gold, Hoppit or Hullabaloo.

http://www.loddonbrewery.com/

Both brewery make very decent ale indeed, we buy probably a dozen or more barrels from them each year for weekends away, parties and weddings etc.

Both should be able to sort you out with a firkin (72 pints), a tap and a spile (google it) for a bit over £100 each. All you'll need then is a hammer to whack it in.

Other than that, Butt's brewery, further West down the M4 is good, Barbus Barbus one of the ones to look for there.

Edit to add: Thought you said Berks, still if you don't mind the trip, they're worth it.
