ok have read all the fantastic threads on this subject. ( I recommend you check your servo as that bit of rust on the bottom is probably the tip of the ice burg) I sent my servo to be reconditioned but this is a non starter as the can is not avalible, so it looks like a new servo and master cylinder. can anyone confirm that by using a fiesta servo part number 1666345 the bulk head does not need to be redrilled? also the part number for the matching master cylinder? thanks

Simplest but possibly not the cheapest BUT you know the bits WILL fit and you are supporting a supplier who is prepared to invest to support our cars

Mike

I dont disagree with Normans sentiments about TVRCarparts however the servo changeover is a well documented change and is relatively easy (after the drilling is done.
The servo is from a short list of fiestas with a master cylinder 22.2 dia (IIRC) bore which I'm sure is well covered in the FAQ thread, (mine was from a Mk3 XR2i) they are available cheaply and invariably in good condition... have a go and save some money learning more about your car as you go wink

I was lucky as mine was relatively easy as an S3 ford to ford unit exchange but have a good look at the work required to redrill the bulkhead before you dismiss it and pay the money...

Good Luck

K wink

I have just noticed that there is nothing on the alternative parts list to link through to the work that has been done on alternative servo/mastercylinder arrangements. How do we make that link?

I had a new servo and master cylinder from tvrcarparts last year, all fitted my S1 as identical to the original Saab unit.
It took Neil a lot of searching as the only ones he normally stocks are the Fiesta but the Saab ones can be found.

Good Luck

ok, just to update....spent the day calling and visting ford breakers scrap yards and the ford dealer. When was the last time you saw an old fiesta? I could not find the parts secound hand. from the dealer the servo is £145 the master cylinder about the same. to avoid ordering the wrong parts I used tvr car parts £325 including p&p, 2 bleed nipples and a new 10mm pin for the pedal. will update when fitted

thought some might be interested in an update, I drilled out for the servo using the templates avalible on here these work well however the holes are very close so drill a small hole then file it out, also one hole is right over the mount for the excelerator pedal so a small bit has to be ground off luckily I had access to an air line and gun which I also used to grind out the hole for the new larger clevis pin (there is no room in the footwell for a drill) I lagged the back of the new servo in copper grease and bolted it up, the old resivior wouldt come off so the bolts on that also had to be ground off. the old servo lookes like it will fit however IT WILL LOCK YOUR BRAKES ON DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO TRY AND USE IT, the bleed nipple and line to the regulator bolt straight on but the other 2 are the wrong thread so I have had adaptors made, hope to fill with fluid and bleed at the weekend, will update then.

Have just changed my servo over the weekend. My S3 is a 1991 on the J plate and was first registerd on the 1-8-91, and was fitted with a ford Fiesta servo from new. So recon the change over from Saab to ford must have been about this time. But beware Ford used two servos over this period, the diferance being the diameter. The right part no is PSA 328 and was used between 83 & 97 and is an 8" servo. The one you can get confused with is almost identical but is an 8 1/2 diameter wich means it is to big to clear the clutch servo. One mod I did make was to fill the gap where the two halves of the servo are joind with a window mastic, to stop water being able to just lay there, and I also painted the bottom half with a black rubberised underseal to slow down any further rusting. Good news is that a guy on Fleabay is selling them for £50, but i beat him down to £40 + P&P His id is ( midcornwallparts1 )Dont tell him its for a TVR or he will jack the price up. Whilst you are standing on your head have a look at the bulkhead stearing bearing!" Mine was completly shot, easy change got a realy great one from TVR spares, comprised of a turned alluminium housing, ( not the crap plastic one fitted by TVR) + shrouded bearing. Remember shrouded bearings are not proof against water, only dust & grit. So I made up a rubber flange that fits onto the outside bulkhead bolts that hold the bearing houseing in place, and packed it with grease. If anyone would like some more info please let me know & will send some pics
Happy braking Ray
