'only buy what you want when you want it'

WTF? I really don't get the tagline. Why is this supermarket different from any other?

And the guys warbling on about taking his missus away and finishes with 'I love you' DOUBLE WTF?

Oh FFS the Gud Wid Fud really overheats my micturation system. I don't get it either, spend hours trailing to and from your local store to get stuff, or a couple of hours a week at Sainsbury's (or 30 mins pressing buttons). It rather has the whiff of a senior director's pet project that nobody sare say no to.

They do seem to be trying to stick a massively overpriced shop in every estate. What I don't understand is why the Co-Op's booze selection is so poor. Would sir like crap wine or Carlsberg?

pretty clever marketing, dont dare attack any of the big supermarkets for fear of reprival. target your own local markets and entice them to save overall by not buying in bulk and ending up throwing away (even though co-op cost so much more its better value to throw away) ironicly look at the shop they use in their advert? hardly convenience sized is it?

They are clearly trying to emulate the John Lewis/Waitrose style of 'wistful' advertising and failing miserably, it's a shame as the Co-op are a little bit different from the others but dear god, let down by piss poor service and lack of choice in comparison to Tesco etc.

(Apply marketing hat)...

Co-Op are or are trying to position themselves as the "proper local, socially and environmentally considerate choice".

The "Buy what you need when you need it" slogan is reflective of studies that have shown the amount of otherwise edible food thrown away each year equates to a third of all food each home buys annually - worth around £600.

The reason for the waste is the way the larger stores package and promote things like BGOF - getting people to buy stuff they don't actually need but think they are getting a deal.

By reflecting this in their marketing, they are showing empathy with the problem and thus offer a more friendly and personal face to the local shopper.......

.....as long as there is someone on the till!!!
