Will an American PS3 game work on my PS3/TV?
Discussion
Right, I need something clarifying. They're bringing out a new NASCAR game this year for 360/PS3, and I want to get it. The problem is they haven't confirmed whether it'll be launched over here yet, so getting one from the US may be the only option. I've heard games on PS3 are no longer regioned, so there's no problem there. I'm just concerned about the PAL/NTSC thing. From what I've read, PAL seems to transmit at 50hz and NTSC 60hz, meaning it might not work. However, when I had the PS2, playing on Test Drive Unlimited, one of the Burnout games (can't remember which) it asked at the start if I wanted to use 60hz mode. On my old TV, it wouldn't work, the picture would be crap quality and in black and white. However, I bought a new fangled HD TV and it worked fine in 60hz mode. So am I right to assume a US game will work on it?
HD display modes don't care about PAL/NTSC so I wouldn't worry about that. If you didn't use HD and went for normal SD PAL or NTSC your TV will handle it fine.
Most PS3 games are region unlocked. There are a few region locked games but these are in a small minority, best to do a google to see if your game is region locked, but i'd guess it won't be.

My first ps3 was a US 60gb, bought it in new york 4 1/2 years ago and it ran all US games and Uk games and blu rays fine. No issues with hooking upto tv's and i got round the power plug issue with a plug from a old pc moniter.
It fell foul of the 60gb curse a few months ago though, overheated and cooked the motherboard.
Now have a 320bg slimline and it runs the us games i have fine.
Get your game and enjoy.

As said the game will work fine but be aware some download extras such as extra tracks on guitar hero wont work unless your psn account is for an address in USA not Europe.
Ah, this could be an issue. As I understand it, they're releasing the game with the 2010 cars/drivers/tracks initally, then releasing the 2011 ones as DLC.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
