Shift 2 out 25th March
Discussion
I know this is a controversial thing to say, but I actually prefer the way cars handle in Shift to the way they handle in GT5. The cars feel more "real" to me, and behave how you expect them to. I have Shift set up in "simulation" mode, and use a DFGT wheel.
I played Shift all the time until GT5 came along, and really enjoyed it, especially being able to drive around Brands Hatch and Donnington. I seriously hope these are included in Shift 2.
After having played GT5 for two months, I went back to Shift this week, and found it to be much more fun, GT5 feels like a bit of drudgery in comparison. I went for a spin in a Pagani Zonda R in Shift around the NS and it was a complete monster of a car, snarling and wheelspinning in the first few gears, and it felt "right". Brutal and exciting.
I then went to GT5, Pagani Zonda R once again, and went to the NS. First impression was how weedy the sounds were, in Shift it sounded like I'd expect a Zonda to sound. In GT5, it sounded like a food mixer. I proceeded to do a lap of the NS, and it was much easier in GT5. In Shift, it was a struggle, just how it is in real life. I will concede that the graphics are amazing in GT5, and the NS in particular looks stunning. The graphics in Shift are grainy in comparison. I hope Shift 2 has 1080p graphics.
Before anyone pre-judges me, I have been driving an assortment of fast cars for the last thirty years, including track days and laps of the real NS, so I do know a bit of what I am talking about.
I urge those of you with Shift and a wheel to try this comparison like I have, and be honest, which of the two gave you the most thrills and excitement? I find GT5 to be quite boring really...
I have just pre-ordered Shift 2 from play.com. I'm sure it will be a brilliant game.
Cheers,
Steve
