I saw a car this morning which looked like a Fiat Cinquecento but had bigger wheels and a "Full time AWD" badge on the back. I would have ruled it out as simple badge comedy until a vague memory of looking round an AWD Fiat Uno many years ago came back to me.

I've had a scout round the net and there's not much evidence that Fiat made AWD versions of anything smaller than the Panda, so I'm a bit confused. Can anyone clarify?

What kind of age was the car?

The Subaru Justy is the only thing that springs to mind as being square, small and 4WD but I'm sure there are others.

This.

Suzuki Alto 4WD is also a possibility.

I was crawling up to a roundabout so had a really good look at it. I was quite high up though so couldn't see any clues with the running gear.

It was definitely a Fiat and I'm certain it was a Cinq (my missus used to have one). It just occurred to me that it was RHD too which rules out an import.

It was the original, boxy version (in this colour too smile ):

The designers of the "Bosmalu" changed the body, chassis, steering and propulsion system Cinquecento

So it seems there was such a car made, although it was actually a prototype that never made production.

Government funded from what I can make out, for farmers and the militery but they said 'NO'....

Hmm interesting. The wheels were far bigger than a standard Cinq but they did fill the arches which suggests it wasn't AWD at all.

I think this is pointing to misbadging. I'll see if I can find the badge somewhere - that would solve it smile

Bit of a shame, I quite liked the idea of a AWD Cinq biggrin

Right, I saw this bad boy again this morning and was in the MX-5 so could see it without looking down on it.

I'm not sure why I'm slightly disappointed but it is definitely not an AWD Cinq. The rigid axle across the back was probably the biggest clue, and the small sticker on the back stating that it was in fact, "the minge mobile," suggests it was all just shameless decoration. hehe

laugh I guess not, but I was in a 4x4 looking down on it, and from that angle there could have been anything underneath it.

In truth I just hoped it was true - the idea of a 4x4 Cinq sounds like a blast biggrin
