MkIII Golf - new radiator and head gasket.

Once the head gasket has gone on these, is it likely to be a re-occurring nightmare?

Quote is £800.

No offence intended but is the car even worth £800?

Can't you do it yourself? Neither seem like particularly difficult jobs with the assistance of a Haynes manual.

Best bet is to get lots of quotes and see what the average price is I suppose.

Cost me £40 for all the bits to change a HG on a Mk2 golf Gti (8v) that included the belts etc. Took 4 - 5 hours I would say but then I had never done it before (or even taken a head off) so I would say it would only take 3 - 4 for someone who did it at as a living.

Rad shouldnt take any longer than 2 hours

Would love to answer all your questions but this was a query on behalf of a friend.

I would say the car is not worth £800 but they don't really have the funds to buy anything else.

I will relay this info and tell them to ring around.

Cheers.

£800 will get them another perfectly servicable Mk3 Golf.
