It is 2 years now since I sold my Chimaera (for house deposit reasons). I have had a Fiat Coupe Turbo since then - it has been great and never let me down but is lacks the TVR X factor.

My budget is about £28k - I have seen a Tuscan Red Rose at this price in at a specialist garage (i.e. non TVR dealership). It is a 2001 Y with 18,000 miles on the clock and has aircon etc. Apparently, it has just been serviced and had an engine rebuild to sort out what I am told is an inherent problem with early Tuscans. It is in good nick (the only visible problem is a broken lumbar support on the drivers seat which I would get them to sort out). They are offering 12 months warranty.

Does this sound like a good price or could I do better?

Also, is there anything in particular to look out for when buying a second hand Tuscan?

I would also be interested to hear from anyone who has a Tuscan and has previously had a Chimaera - are they totally different?

I got a 2 year warranty with mine and had some chip damage resprayed on the bonnet.

Having come from chims to Tuscans, yes they are very different.

There is a clear impression that the Tuscan is a next generation car over the chim in terms of build and quality in general, and performance of course, which you will have to experience for yourself as simple words like "frucking fast" wont do justice.

When you say the lumber on the seats - do you mean the edge near the door? If so this is a common problem. If you send the seat to TVR, they'll fix the seat by replacing the tubing within. Last time I got one done I think they charged £65 + VAT delivered back.

I too went from a Chim to a Tus.

Performance wise they from different planets. The Chim was amazing but the Tus is like a ruddy great go-kart on steroids!

RR is a great option to have BTW and, like you say, the engine must have been rebuilt in the last 12 months to be safe
