geometry check ?

hi all

what can and cant be adjusted on a s3 regards to geometry on my car ?

my tracking is out on one side so i know that can be done
i have just fitted new shocks all round so i know the ride height can be setup and the rebound adjuster on the shocks

i'm asking this as 2 tvr garages i have spoken to are not sure what can be adjusted on the front and they are saying that the rear you may not be able to do anything

the car seems to drive well but it would be good to know what options i have

On the front - height, track, camber (via bolts on top wishbone) and castor (via shims in top wishbone recess where you adjust camber)

on the rear - height and track (shims on later models only with later trailing arm)

Are you sure you went to a Garage ???
Any good mechanic should be able to see what can be adjusted, even not knowing TVR's

I see from your profile you are in Herts. Depending where you are it might not be too far to visit http://www.guglielmimotorsport.co.uk/ They justifiably have a fantastic reputation and several from this forum, including me, use them. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my car

hvdweerden i only spoke to them on the phone "service managers" and they didnt know untill the car was brought in
you would think they would know without seeing it ?

longers that looks like a great place to go but its to far for me shame its not nearer cheers anyway

Agree with Longers. Great garage. Also one of the mechanics `Dave`owned longers car and almost rebuilt it before selling it to him.
May be an extra 30 minutes drive from many others but at least the guys know the S inside and out.

Protyre are (I believe) the only place who can do the full alignment in Plymouth where I live and when I took mine to them I had to show them how, they were happy they knew then when I came back to pay the bill was low so I asked and it was then they said "no only tracking is adjustable". Needless to say I insisted it went back on there and then and whoed them the adjusters and then watched until it was all complete!!!

I think many of these so called garages can do your Saxo, Scoobie or boy racer mobile but have forgotten how to work on real cars

i have a protyre local to me and yes they can do a full geo wheel alignment on many cars "newish"
but on our cars you need someone who knows what there doing !

If they have the same equipment as at the plymouth depot and you show them where the adjustments are and what the settings required are then the system is pretty much foolproof as they put the desired settings into the computer and it goes green when the car is in spec as they adjust the car as you've shown them. Just make sure that once in spec they roll it off the gear and then back on and re-check to allow for any ground sticktion etc to be eliminated and preventing giving a false reading.

I will admit that my next set up will be done at a specialist but this was really for front only as I hadn't sone the rear bushes at that point (and am only half way through that job now 12 months on!!)

It's not "Dave" it's "Rodney" But yes, not many will know the S Series better than him.

Agree with previous comments, it will be worth the journey. I still go to Gugi's which is an hour from me despite there being another TVR specialist nearer than that. Also, they can lend you a car if it's too far there and back in a day and they do specialise in geo work

If they are TVR garages as you wrote, they should know. And if the "service managers" didn't know it, at least they could have asked the mechanic. It seems they were just not interested enough to do some work for you. Blame them, not you ;-)
